Will UAW Strike?

What I find interesting is, why would someone pay (finance) a new truck or car costing almost 100 grand when, unlike real estate, the purchase depreciates over time? I just don't get it but then being older, maybe I'm not in touch with the times.

Just looked out the window at my 1997 Ford F350 sitting in the drive and I think to myself, no payment due. It's soon to be headed into the garage for it's winter sleep.

Good question. Been asked many times. Lotsa folks don't like to hear this, but...

The Most American-Made Vehicles In 2023

If you're looking to buy American you'll need to avoid the Big Three.

The funny thing is that this gives the Big 3 a little help because of the methodology. It counts Canada as part of the US and employees as % of the footprint (meaning having HQ in US gives them 'points- toward American made.)

If you just go by where vehicles and their components are made, it looks even worse.

You were bragging how some rando offered you 35k for your "unicorn" and you sold it.

Did you buy it back? Did you buy it back for more than 35K?

He must have had two I guess or the guy backed out and lost the 5 grand he put down.

..and I thought and have observed the asking (and getting) prices on pre Tier 4 Kubota's was high. Guess everything Pre Tier 4 is commanding high prices as well.

I was just offered and took 35 thousand for my 1997 Ford F350 long bed, 4 door pickup truck. Just turned 100K and has always been garaged and in the winter up here, has never seen snow or salt. No rust anywhere, super clean inside and out.

Bought it new in 1997 and paid a bit less than 35 for it.

Told the guy, cash only and he said no issue and will complete the transaction mid week next week. Gave me 5 grand down btw. private sale, didn't even advertise it, 100% word of mouth.

Only stipulation is, no 100 dollar bills. Too many counterfeit hundreds floating around today.

I don't use it much anymore since I'm not delivering rounds. The Kaufman tandem axle goose neck is next to go. Don't need that either and the camper as well. At our age, a motel is the better alternative. Camper is always kept inside as well and purchased new

He's getting so old he can't remember his stories anymore.

Actually, I decided to keep it as replacing it with a like truck would cost me way more than I'm willing to spend. 100 grand isn't in my ball park at all. My big issue with it is insuring it. ACV and actual worth are 2 distinctly different things so I'm very careful with it and at 73 years young, I suspect it will outlast me.

Hey, now I resemble that remark, at almost 71 years old. I’m almost as old as ole5030 and I still remember making my daughter over 50 years ago!

Why would you do that on a deal, even after accepting a down payment.

That is low...

Back in my 20's I looked at an old Chevy truck and told the guy I would buy it and agreed on a price. I had second thoughts and when the time came to pay for it I hesitated and asked the guy if he would come down a couple hundred bucks. He wasn't in the least bit happy and mentioned we had an agreement even though it was verbal. I honored my offer and paid the agreed on price. Since that experience long ago, I'm very careful in my negotiations.

I'd like to hear more about how 5030 backed out of a deal after a downpayment and how it went down. I assume it was a mutual agreement.

My brother ordered a new EV Silverado last year. He's been talking it up, etc. That's cool, it's his thing.

I told him when he gets it, 1 big thing to even try and convince me to even think of EV is a tow and distance challenge. His EV vs my ice truck. Both with the same load. Trailer with the mini.

Who can go the farthest.

Ironically he touts EV's as he's sitting at Walmart for an hour trying to charge up his volt cuz couldn't make it home. I told him in 5 minutes I can be back on the road

If he ever gets it, the torque will be unbelievable. All the torque he wants at very low speed/rpms.

I don't plan on buying one, even though I'm probably the perfect target (we have one nice/reliable vehicle for travel and several "beater with a heater" style vehicles for our 20 mile round trip commute every day. With more vehicles than drivers and a short predictable commute an EV might make sense from a usage standpoint. We need enough people to buy them so that they can work out the problems (fiery death, cold weather, more pollution than an ICE, etc).
