   / Good morning!!!! #174,293
Good (Wednesday) morning. Overnight Low of -0.5C with a light frost. It's presently 14.7C, fairly clear with a gentle breeze.

It's 'into town' day for mail/groceries and I'll top-up the ute with petrol in anticipation of a trip to Hobart on Saturday for a day long meeting/conference.

Time/wind-wise, I'll look to cleaning up that wattle tree that was damaged by Monday's wind.

That's about it, take care all.

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 5:15AM. Sunshine and clouds mixed. High 96F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Sounds like a good deal on the XTs, Kyle. The 225 here is an '07, and Yamaha blue. It's probably been a year since it last ran. I tried keeping the battery on a Save A Battery charger, but it still died and I haven't had the time to replace it. It also needs a clutch, and has an oil leak in that area, and I've already got the parts. Just no time to install them. Not sure how it would work in Texas, but here in CA you can apply for a lost title replacement by just filing an affidavit with the bike's history and submitting it with a bill of sale. Hope you find the trouble with the car's AC without too much drama.

What are you using to cut your roof steel, Ron? I started off with aviation snips but they hurt my hands, so switched to a saber saw. Broke a bunch of blades trying to get up and down the ridges pressed into the steel, but eventually got 'er done. Saw on one of the Alaska reality TV shows where the guy reversed the carbide blade in his hand held circular saw and also got 'er done, but that seemed too crazy to even try.

Yep, that's getting to be my mantra as well, Mike. Everything is more expensive than it used to be, or even should be. But that doesn't remove the need.

Now that we've established the true floor space of the new house, we've decided to take the next step and have ordered a full appraisal. The house may still appraise at the asking price, and I'm fine with that. If it doesn't, though, anyone needing a loan to purchase it would be out of luck unless the sellers knock down the price, and that's about 90% of potential buyers. There's still the remaining 10%, and it only takes one with more money than sense to make a better offer should I decide to bail. The appraisal is today, so we'll know pretty quick. I spent most of the yesterday talking first with my previous realtor, then the current one, to get a better prespective on the situation. Both agree that the seller's realtor has made some pretty fundamental mistakes, but neither find anything nefarious or illegal. But because of the floor space issue, I'll get not only my deposit back, but also what I've spent on inspections and the appraisal, should the deal fall apart. Small comfort, as it's a pretty nice house.

I did manage to run my buddy's forgotten glasses over to the post office, but I wonder if he'll get them in time to use on his upcoming trip. It's gonna be close.

Touched base with the RAM van's salesman yesterday, too, asking for an update on the slush mat they still owe me, and double checking on the registration paperwork. It's been five weeks and I still don't have plates, and I'm wondering if something got dropped through the cracks.

I got clarification from an online source on where the jump starting lugs are located on the RAM van's engine. I was so immersed in the owner's manual being incorrect that I missed the obvious threaded stud sitting right in front of me, complete with a bright yellow label. Funny how the mind works, especially an older one.

Now I can rig up a wiring harness for yet another Save A Battery trickle charger, which I'll do today. Then I need to find an ignition switched lead so I can hook up a radar detector on the dash. And get a plan for mounting the amplifiers for the subwoofer and door speakers, as well as the subwoofer itself.

During all this I think I spotted a crack in the van's windshield. It's about 4" long and extending upwards from the bottom center of the glass. It's gonna be a bear to replace with all the fancy electronics glued to it at the top, and it's unlikely it's covered by insurance, but I'll have to look into it more to be sure. More lemons.
Thanks, hope you get the old XT going for a run a bout utility bike. I'm thankful I don't have to work on that engine in the van. It looks like they shrunk wrapped the body and accoutrement around it. So many vehicles now are getting where you have to pull the body up, or let the subframe down to work on the engine. Not for me.

talk about years of notice...sale of incandescent bulbs now banned at of August 1.
these are exempted, but for sure all those left over bulbs will likely make their way to third world countries.

I would have thought flood lights would be something targeted, apparently not. And all those halogen bulbs for recessed lighting inside.
  • Appliance lamps, including fridge and oven lights
  • Black lights
  • Bug lamps
  • Colored lamps
  • Infrared lamps
  • Left-handed thread lamps
  • Plant lights
  • Flood lights
  • Reflector lamps
  • Showcase lamps
  • Traffic signals
  • Some other specialty lights, including marine lamps and some odd-sized bulbs
More dumb stuff from people that won't try to see the whole picture.

The LED bulb energy savings is all a farce just like so much of the "new green" is.
Yes, an incandescent bulb generates a lot of heat but in the winter time so what it will help with heating. In the summer yes you will get a bit less heating with some of the LED bulbs but not all. Then the additional cost is past any energy savings and the life is much less then advertised and promoted.
This is my opinion and that's my take on the subject. Even though most of my lights are LEDs at this time.
Agreed!

You can still buy them on Amazon.
106˚ today NOT heat index.
Hottest day so far this year. My car is parked between 2 buildings and when I got in it, the temp was 113F. It went down to 107F when I got out of there.
We had zero drops, but a grey cloud passed just south of us, giving us a few minutes of shade and lowered the temp to 100F. :)

Good Evening Daugen,
This whole thing makes me laugh ! The USA is reducing its carbon footprint, while China is increasing theirs ! I kind of forget all the numbers I read in an article the other day, but the just of the article was that even with our planned reductions, China's increase and projected increase will more than eliminate our reductions !

President Xi is obviously not on board yet !
Amazon.com Watch this video for fun if you have Amazon Prime. The funny guys talk about China not even having hardly any roads 20 years ago (or something like that), and now they have so many, along with cars. They are burning gas at an alarming rate and now gasoline is a hot commodity (always was since like petrol engines came into being).

Price at the cheapest local pump went from $2.87/gallon last week, to $3.47/gallon. Hitting me in the pocket book.

Billy, "Dept of Interior" explains a lot. another bunch of hoighty toighty schnaubs. Just wait until they find out an electric sawzall with carbide tipped ripper blade will cut as fast as a chainsaw, they will panic. Just paint it camouflage, tuck it under your coat. Have 2 friends with walkie talkies or cellphones forward and backward on the trail, and get your business done....Buy harbor freight, have a pile of leaves to stash it, and leave it behind if you have to. And let me guess, do the Interior people use any type of powered vehicle, tool, etc, to enforce their laws? If so, that would make them hypocrites IMB.

Ok, winding down. Took my student helpers to lunch today, had great conversation. One of them is about to graduate and leave us. He wants to join the Space Force, or maybe the Air Force. He's a computer savvy young man, with a gift of being able to quickly learn a system/software no matter what it is attached to. Impresses me often. He can be lazy, as in hard to get out of bed, but he only works part time for me, so he often comes in after lunch. Air Force will be good for him. He says they don't accept and process new recruits until next summer. He missed this summer's recruitment.

Came home and wifey and I met some friends at the local DQ. Had a great time. Their baby daughter is about 10 months old and was so good, and so fun to play with.

Hope all of you have a blessed day. Prayers for our team, especially those with health needs, our country and Ukraine peace.

Did y'all see where Musk/Starlink shut down the system to stop the Ukrainians from droning a Rusky ship in the Crimean sea.

   / Good morning!!!! #174,300
Coffee is done brewing. 57° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 82° with mix of sun and clouds. Got metal roof put up yesterday. Still need to put a few more screws in and edge to trim to install. Tree trimmer showed up at noon. Left my place and 2 neighbors at 2 neighbors at 7 pm. Going to get lots of seat time on tractor cleaning up the limbs from the trees. Besides tree trimming 3 very large trees were taken down. We have to cut the trees up and chip smaller limbs. Hope to get grass cut today when I get limbs cleaned up.
Yesterdays Sturgeon Full Moon.
