I wonder if the belt drive has give so the blades don't need to swing freely? If I remember right TTWT has some good videos of the rough cut. I remember being impressed.

Here's another one. If money were no object I would have one of them. They have really wide finish mowers for them, flail mowers, and a few more attachments that seem like they would be really handy. But money is absolutely an object and my family feels like they need to eat EVERY week...

I just purchased a 2020 4500 with a Tough Cut mower. I've had it for a week and I'm blown away with what this tractor and mower can do. I mowed my pond dam with the slope meter flashing at 26 degrees! It has duals and it walked right up that dam, which hasn't been touched since last fall. I've been using a 5ft bush hog for years to maintain our 54 acres of steep, mostly woods property. This machine is a game changer. I'm taking back property that has been overgrown for the past decade. Highly recommend.

You may not need the hill climbing ability, but you will like the traction and stability.

By free swinging, do you mean like my 7 foot Titan rotary cutter that keeps turning after I turn off the PTO my my Kioti? No. The tough cut is belt driven. So I each blade is on a pully that has the belt run across it. What are you trying to cut? I have. 2015 4500Z and ith a 2000 tough cut deck. It is not indestructible, in fact I blew up a pully a couple weeks ago. But I was able to repair it and it’s back in service. If you can push it down, you can cut it. I think the spec says 1.5 inches. I have cut hundreds of poplars that are more than 2 inches. Heavy broom grass and brush. Blackberry thickets. Saplings. Its a beast. Its expensive but way more versatile than any other cutter I’ve seen. It does things that I did not think were possible.

here is the free swinging blades most rough mowers have. (in the mini version) These blades have a step down to them which allow them to strike objects and minimizes the blade damage.

Honestly that little Ventrac would be nice with the tiller, cultivator, seeder and large mower deck for our future property. It just seems a little low on HP. 25hp diesel? Only other option is gas to get above 30hp? I mean my trail mower has more HP

I have a 73 hp kioti with a 7 foot titan rotary cutter. But the terrain here is crazy and there were places that it just wouldnt work. I bought the Ventrac because my wife was asking me to teach her to use the 7 foot cutter. I just was not comfortable with that so I found a used Ventrac at about 60% the cost of new and added the brush cutter. It is not cheap. But I found that it could do far more than I expected. 9 feet tall blackberry thicket? Nothing at all. Easy1 inch saplings? Childs play.

I’ve never used a DR mower or tow behind “trail mower” so I have valid way to compare. I can tell you that I was looking at. 7 foot flail mower on a boom for my tractor and havnt had it cross my mind since I got the ventrac. Check this video. Not one of mine but it shows it very well.
