Good Afternoon,
I have been wanting to put in drainage in a wet section of my DW for the past few years ! Well I finally got to it today, although it rained throughout the whole project ! 🤔
We dug a 100 ft long trench 2 ft wide and about 18” deep diagonally through the section of my DW that gets really wet in the spring ! I had to call Dig Safe first because my internet and phone lines run the length of my 800 ft DW ! I’m guessing I used about 10 yds of 1 1/2” stone, because I have about 2 or 3 yds left in my pile ! We used fabric over the stone to keep out the dirt from filtering down through ! My neighbor graciously used his Hitachi excavator to dig the trench, and I used my tractor to shuttle the stone down the DW where it was needed ! Time will tell how successful this project was ! 🙏

So Eddie Walker, I did get rid of most of that stone pile, figured you would be proud of me ! 😂

Good Afternoon Thomas,
And the good news is that we managed to not break the internet/fiber optic cable coming up the DW ! Farther down the DW we dug up the old phone line and thought that Dig Safe had forgot to mark it, but I went up and called Vtel on my cell phone and they said my phone was fine, that was the original land line cable !

I broke out in my Happy Dance !;)

I was jealous of all that rock you had piled up!!!! I need a few of those piles for my place, but it's gonna cost me $45 a yard.

Good Evening Eddie,
As I recall they delivered 12 or 13 yds of 1 1/2" stone and charged me $350 ! Your only 1,635 miles from me and I still have 3yds left ! Interested ? ;)

i would have placed fabric, and a cleanout as well, but thats a pretty short run.

Good Evenin LittleBill,
Yes we used fabric and I just have to move some gravel at the end of the run to get to the pipe if I ever need a cleanout !

My neighbor Jeff, is a lot more savvy about these types of projects than me !

Best price that I've seen for 12 yards delivered is $575. Everything is red clay here, rocks are very rare!!!

Have I got a DEAL for you!!!
All of the rocks you want, all that you have to do is come and get them. I also have some red granite which would bring a good price if I lived near civilization. :D

Yup we can grow rocks better than vegetables in northeast. ;)

My soil types are "Chesuncook-Telos" and "Telos-Chesuncook". I believe that means "A little dirt surrounded by small stones."

Good Morning Jstpssng,
Yes we have more than our share here also, but I had to pay for a load that were all the same size !:)

Every time I bush hog the field I find a new crop ! :(

Good Afternoon Guys,
Just a quick follow up on the drain project. As most of you know we have an unprecedented amount of rain here, which gave me the opportunity to see how the driveway drain was working. Took a ride down the DW this morning in the Ranger and sure enough water was coming out of the drain making me feel that all our work was not in vain ! 🙏

The real test will be next spring when the frost is coming out along with the spring rains ! We shall see !

Congratulations on your successful drainage project! I hope that others in your area fared ok as well. That was a heck of a lot of rain.

All the best,

Peter

Good Evening Eddie,
Sorry didnt see this, we have gotten over 5" of rain earlier in the week, and it looks like we have more on the way ! Im praying for all the people up here that are in low lying areas !

It looks like a large part of the country has some type of issue to deal with ! Whether it be extreme heat or large quantities of rain !

I have a mile long gravel driveway. Straight as an arrow - hard as a rock. I finally got around to ditching one particular wet area on the driveway. Large field drains down onto a 150 foot section of the driveway. Did it early enough this spring that I could see that it helps.

Not nearly as fancy as the OP. Just a simple ditch for drainage.

BTW - as of today I have received a total of 6.62 inches of rain/melted snow here. That's since Jan 1, 2023. When it rains here - we go out and stand in the rain. This area is listed as semi-arid.

Good timing on your ditch!!

Hope it doesn't get any worse for everyone there.
