I use this. Set the can on the hood and spout goes into tank and fill. No spills, no holding 40 pounds in the air.

That's what I do. Exactly. Same container and same spout. I do put a piece of padding on the hood so it doesn't eat up the paint so bad...wish I'd done so years ago.

Get one of these made in USA 12 V drum pumps and couple of suitable used 55 gallon plastic drums and be done with it most likely for a lifetime and then some.

$329? dang! I got a battery one from Amzn, which should work ok for the amount I'm gonna use it. I'll try to extend the hose and see how that works, without the need to lift the jug...

I got a 12v pump, hose, and nozzle kit from NT. Was pricey but works a charm mounted on a 55gal drum with a little AGM battery.

To fill my lawn mower I put a T in the gas line on
my old Dodge pickup with a ball valve and a long
hose. When I needed gas for the lawn mower just
push lawn mover over my truck start truck open
valve and walla gas tank full.
For diesel I have these 2.5 gas oil plastic cans and
will be using them as they come with the oil and a
lot lighter than 5 gal. I have no problem lifting the
5 gal can of diesel to put on top of the hood and I
also have a battery operated pump where I put the
5 gal of diesel on tire and let the pump work.

I bought a "Shaker hose".

I put the fuel can in the loader bucket, raise it above the tank and siphon fuel into the tractor.
Someday I'll have a 30 gallon tank and put it overhead in the shed, so that I can just turn on the valve and it will run into the tank.

You can do it cheap and do it again in few years, or you can spend $250 - $350 and do it once!
