Best way to get diesel into the tractor?

I think there is a boat we are in here together. 5 gal cans too small and too heavy. Big stationary tanks overkill.
Although jyoutz has got me thinking... I have a seldom used trailer and forklift. I could haul a bigger tank to town. Say 100-150 gal size.
If I could find one at a reasonable price.
I was thinking of one of those 40-50 gallon transfer tanks like they make for truck beds. They are upright and only about 15” wide, so they don’t take up much trailer space, leaving the rest of the trailer to haul other things.

That's what I've been thinking about, also. 40 gallons would weigh around 350 lbs so I could easily build a stand in my shed high enough to gravity feed, and lift it in place with my forks.

When I was just fueling the tractor I would fill 2x 5g cans and use the old squeeze bulb transfer pipe. With the skid steer I bought a 110 gallon aluminum transfer tank and mounted it on a pallet made out of ground contact rated 2x6s. The pallet will fit between the wheel wells of my truck bed and the tank is high enough so I can slide it in the bed anywhere I want it. A ratchet strap keeps it secured in place.

When I need to fill the tank I put on forks and slide it in the end of the bed. I can also put it on the equipment trailer. When I am not traveling with the skid steer I can leave the tank in the barn so I still have use of my truck bed.

As for pumping I went with a rotary hand pump that delivers 1g every 10 turns. I also added particulate and water block spin on filters. I have a 1/2in chuck battery powered drill that I can connect to the handle and spin the pump with when I am too tired to crank the handle.

I use this tank mounted on a pallet. When it gets empty, I haul it into town and fill it and then put it under cover in the corner of the hay shed.

And a 12 volt transfer pump on a deep cycle battery charged with a solar battery maintainer.

I got tired of constant trips to town for diesel. I'm on my third tank full since I got it last year. I use double inline filters and water separators between the pump and the hose.

I don't like steel tanks (142lbs empty for that one) and prefer aluminum (59lbs). I can lift my tank when empty.

For a deal on transfer tanks watch Amazon's warehouse deals. I got my deezee L shaped 111g tank for $475 delivered used like new at black friday last year when they had an extra 25% off on warehouse items coupon. They run the coupon a few times a year. Tank was listed like new. It arrived new in box with no dents or scratches.

I've use this pump to transfer fuel from my 5 gallon tanks to my tractor. Works great! Battery Operated Liquid Transfer Pump

I'm still rocking the free 55gal plastic barrel with a Northern 12v transfer pump. Taking it to town for a fill-up today. I use my forklift to lift the full barrel (roughly 400 pounds) onto the 4 wheeled barrel dolly where it stays in the barn. Easy to roll it around where it is out of the way until its needed. I added a fill simple level gauge recently. A small sealed 12v gel cell battery does the pump power duty. Could also connect to the tractor battery if desired. Been burning a 1:3 mix of used motor oil and diesel in my shop heater this winter. That is still a 5 gal can operation but I half fill them to keep it light.
Heavy rains have made for lots of weed abatement this winter.

Best way to fuel any unit is through the filler opening.

Wow, 67 posts about removing the fuel cap and filling it up with fuel. Amazing.
And a couple of good posts on how to get the btu's inside of the tank! lol
Informative thread though.

I have this tank which is great for storage on the shelf, but it's a bit awkward to fill the tank which the fill spout is on the hood of the LX2610.
I think it depends how often you are refueling your tractor that would determine the fueling equipment you want.

If I was refueling at least weekly I would probably go with a larger fuel tank that I would haul in my truck or on a trailer when I need to fill it.

I've got an MX5400 that in two years has only 40 hrs on it so I just use 5 gallon cans and fill the tractor when it gets to 1/2 full.
