I would turn the motor over by hand, either with a wrench on the crankshaft or a screwdriver on the flywheel to make sure it isn't hydro locked and then change the oil. Once you get it running, get it up to temp, then change the oil again!

What can I say? I have been a lurker. I love reading all the posts on TBN but rarely have anything worth adding. My advice is worth what I charge for it - bupkis!

Thanks to everyone for the good information. I'll be opening this can of worms when I get a free weekend and will give you a report on what I find.

My thoughts are, if there is any chance of water in the cylinders, I would make it a very high priority! It won't take long for water on those unprotected cylinder walls to make a mess out of a good engine! Even if it has been a while since the roof collapsed, it might make a difference to shorten the time by as much as possible.
