HD box blade?

Hi All,

Looking to buy a heavy duty box blade this coming spring. Seems like there are a lot of options out there.

Looking for a true HD model for a 52 HP compact tractor. Rear tires are 66" so im looking at 72" wide on the box blade. Trying to get the best cost on a really well built unit that I can.
So far it seems that the two best on paper are either the Woods BSM or the heavier duty model from Everything Attachments.

The EA model looks nice and well designed, and is obviously we'll reviewed, but I am thinking that it has benefited from a lot of online popularity and marketing. The woods is heavier overall, and I believe is made of a heavier gauge steel.

Just looking for any guidance between these two, or any suggestions for other brands.

Don't care about brand, just want good quality for as good a price as I can get.
I have a 7 ft box blade on a 47hp [AFFILIATE=1, nofollow=true, newwindow=true, title="Kubota"]Kubota[/AFFILIATE] and it works well without using the ripper teeth not sure if it would pull with the teeth down. I also just bought from Styron ag online and it was a good experience so far that being said it was a drum mower that I haven't even uncrated yet but I think the prices were good

I have used Gannon boxes for 40 years in my business, they are pretty good. I had several Case 570lxt and older and newer. For my home use I restored this old Gannon mounted on Ford 445a.
I like wheel weights plus liquid filled tires ( beet juice these days). Once you put the box down the back is pretty light weight.
You can always make your own valve arrangement. The offset lever is the ripper. I am also going to make linkage for the side tilt so the lever swings left and right. Just to different.

Look into Armstrong Ag, out of Brenham, TX. They have a few lines, from basic Cat 1, to some very stout Cat 2, and 3 models. I have a 72" Cat 1 with six manual rippers and this thing is more than capable with my LS 4140 XR.

This is mine. A roll-over box blade. As such it's built like a tank. Since its a specialty item they are not cheap. I use mine to maintain trails where I can't turn around and this allows me to pull, push or drop the scarifiers.
You sure keep it looking nice!!!

I use a pull behind box blade I picked up for a few hundred dollars. The trailing wheels ride on the smooth surface cut by the box blade. The end result is unbelievable. I thinks it’s a 7 foot model. I pull it with a Kioti CK2610. I would not trade it for a three point box blade. The outcome between the two are night and day.

Each have their place. To get the full benefit of yours install a tilt cylinder. 🙂

Thanks to everyone for your info.

I had some life stuff come up that pushes this back.

I also was given a nice little three point blade by a cousin that made this a little less urgent. I still want and probably need a box blade though.

I looked into roll over BBs after seeing it here and think that's what I'd like but those babies are expensive! And it seems like no one really makes them anymore. I don't understand why unless it's that the costs are just too high for most of the market.

I'll be looking for something in the next few months I hope though.

And, I don't think I mentioned my use.

I have a mile and a half of mountainous forest road to improve and maintain.
I'll hire out a dozer to widen the road and do much of the initial improvement & heavy earth moving work but want a box blade to do the finish work and long term maintainence.

The road has some steep grades where water creates some pretty good ruts that I will need to be able to fill in and grade.
Most of the road will be left as dirt, but I'll also need to be able to manage some sections that I will gravel.

For that much road this is the ticket. Probably can get a decent price on this one. My road is only a mile and I just bought a Champion 720a series 3. Keep in mind that grading requires proper moisture and compaction.

I'm not I'd be able to pull that with my tractor. :)
You don’t have to it’s self propelled. My time is valuable to me, with one of those it’s much faster and cleans ditches better. When you have to re-establish the crown it is so fast. I still have my Gannon scraper box tractor for certain things where the grader doesn’t fit.
