Bearing removal

JimRB, Thanks for posting this video. I found it fascinating to watch a machinist do their very exacting work! Way out of my league but very informative, interesting and educational!

I have 2017 branson 3520cx tractor...the bearing on front axle is shot on piinion shaft i was able to seal out...now bearing stuck on shaft...Any suggestions how to get it out..thank u
The old way to remove a bearing off a shaft was to put the bearing (with axle) on an anvil. Use a good chisel on the top of the bearing....Two or three good hits and the bearing slides right off....

Pictures of course would help. I would change the ring gear with the pinion anyway. Kind of want those things to wear together. The service manual somewhat shows you what is involved but you do have to jack the front of the tractor up and support it. You will have to take the front axle down from the right side to get the assembly out. These will be heavy and you do have to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

But you seem to be able to get around very well at 80 so for you it may not be an issue. Biggest thing is if you are not comfortable you can do it safely then get some help. It is not worth getting hurt over.

If the ring gear isn't missing a tooth, I would run it. Hang on to the new ones and send back. On the pinion you can use speedy sleeve, or have it bronzed at a machine shop. I'm not above hitting that gouge with a welder and filing it down smooth. But really I'd get a double lipped seal, polish the shaft and run it as it is. Its all slow moving parts anyway. My Papaw drove an old truck for years. Somehow, maybe someone worked on it and forgot to fill the rear with gear oil. It squalled bad after that. He packed it full of bananas and drove it years after that.

Should only be seals or gaskets where the axle housing separated. Internally would not have any.

Pinions and ring gears are always replaced in pairs as they are finish ground after hardening to match each other. If the ring gear has a small chip in it I wouldn't worry about it. Just smooth the edges of the chip off and put it back together.

If you install a new ring and pinion you need to set the ring gear sideways relative to the pinion and the pinion needs to be set in and out relative to the ring gear. I've done it but it's an involved process. If you get to that point it would be advisable to have the help of someone who has the measuring tools and the know how.
