Just drove up to Washington from Texas. Saw someone driving a Smart car. I would not want to do that. The Prius is small enough. 80+ MPH around mountain roads with big trucks? Nope nope nope

A smart car and motorcycle a two very different
items. I won't get in a smart car its smarter to stay
out of them a lot safer.

My wood, coal what ever will burn is probably twice my
age. I haven't used it the last few years. Using oil filled
space heater powered by solar.

A smart car could survive wet grass on the road or hitting a squirrel.

Your motorcycle is not safer. I'm pretty confident % wise, more people die on a motorcycle than in a smart car accounting for total number of users for each.

I was at my dealer yesterday and we were discussing how prices have gotten completely out of hand. I don't know how the typical homeowner is doing it. I work in a gold mine and I won't pay the prices they are asking for new stuff right now. I'll just keep what I have. Sad part is my dealer doesn't think we will ever see the prices lower to what they were pre-covid, even if the economy tanks.

Just a few prices I saw (Canada, in Canadian dollars.)

A Grand L3560 with loader and a snow blower (no extra remotes or anything else) $86,000

Just sold a BX with only a front snow blower and a Tek Tita cab...$48,000

The new John Deere Gator luxury edition with the leather seats $56,000

Glad I already have everything I need.

Anytime there's been sizeable price hikes it never goes back to where it was. Only a reset will do that.

Not just tractors. New vehicles are on the rise as well. Prices are rumored to increase 5 - 10% in 2023.

Not taking any chances. Even though they are high now, I just preordered a new 2023 vehicle and locked in the current price. I'll also get any price drop in the unlikely event one does occur.

Is it really locked in as some have posted they ordered and production pushed into next year model and options and trim changes came at a higher price…

Of course they could cancel and be refunded but it sure sounds one sided…

Or get Tesla'd. Pay for a feature that they disable after the fact over the air

I’m buying a 2023. Price is 24% above what I paid for my 2018.

A definite possibility. If production is pushed into 2024, that will be a new model year and possibly a different vehicle. All bets are off if that happens and I'm under no obligation to accept the 2024 model.

This actually happened to me in October of 2020. I ordered a 2021 GMC Sierra at a locked in price. Production was pushed into 2022 due to parts availability. At that time, GM authorized the dealer to give me a price break on the 2022. It was more than the price of the 2021 but significantly less than the 2022 model. The 2022 came with more features in the trim packages I ordered on the 2021 so I figure I broke even.

It won't cost me anything to give it a try, so we'll see what happens.

Years ago we imported VW bugs and would place orders and if factory made a change or even next year model change VW just delivered the new model without price increase...

Sounds like all bets are off these days...

The original VW Beetle saw steady improvements over many years. Not many surprises in what it cost to manufacture from year to year I suspect. I'm reading elsewhere that EV's have seen some significant price increases due to lithium costs. Any hybrid gas/electric has to be wayyy more complicated than the engine and transmission on the original Beetle.

Printing 6 trillon dollars in two years didn't help control costs.

I believe the biggest change was larger more hp engine...

It was 40-50 years of mostly continuous improvement...

Continuous improvement was lowering operational costs giving the shareholders dividends and the customer a fair price point.

I was in the continuous improvement gig for a couple of years where I worked for 34 years.
