They are getting higher yields with the new genetics of one ear per stalk - one very nice ear. But they have also increased plant populations. I am not sure this isn't Monsanto at it again because higher plant populations means more seed corn at up to $500/bu.I walk a couple of miles most days. I pass several very large fields that alternate between corn and soy beans from year to year. It's all field corn, no sweet corn. In past years, I noticed that most of the corn I could see only had two ears. This year, many stalks only have one.
With the costs involved of machinery and everything else, how can they make money like that? Seems like an awful lot of work for one or two ears per stalk.
Great channel if you want to learn a thing or two about rebuilding engines. Specially the machining aspect of hit. Father and son shop with loads of knowledge. I really enjoy their videos.This fellow rebuilt his 70's era Allis but I didn't catch which model it is. Two-ten? Its a 6 cylinder diesel engine and the video is kind of interesting..
