What tires should you get on a new Tractor, R1, R4, or Turf?

I have to use the tractor to pick up the heavy trees I dropped, even if I chop them up, its a bit much... Now using the JD 790 with Turf tires works fine, but no grapple, so would again have to pick up...yes I am getting old...

Make yourself some bucket forks for stem lift,. You won't be sorry. They come in handy in a multitude of ways
Mine go all the way to the back of the bucket and cut from a 32" long piece of steel (4"wide x3/4" thick). Held on by two 1/2" bolts per side. $50 to make. Had welding shop cut out shape and then I ran a welding bead for grip and strength along the top..

Thats not the reason and a rather ludicrous statement that a person w a 4wd tractor, doesn't know how to use the 4wd as if there is a technique to place it in 4wd. Also, the locking diff is there for sporadic use when needed .
It has more to do with the tread spacing on particular R4's, size and weight of the tractor, tire pressure and the size of the R4's themselves, type of snow (wet/dry), weighted or not and terrain of the individuals property.
I have a friend with a large frame tractor who logs with his R4's in 12" of snow. Little problem. I have another friend with a JD 3720 whose R4's give him conniptions in snow.
It is not the tire designation as much as the details and properties of such.

Good point I can't disagree with. I only have experience with the R4's on my Massey GC1710. I suppose it's possible it's just a superior R4 to the ones that come on other tractors.

I'll also add though, some people get dramatic over the slightest slippage. When I drive down our road in the snow, I purposely take little slides in the turns, coz it's fun. I can't do that with my wife in the car though, she freaks out.

I used to love driving rear wheel drive vehicles for just this reason. Used to freak people out, mostly people not brought up in snow, when would I spin the car in an intersection to make a turn and tell snow makes cornering faster.

It really depends on your usage...
Ag work, R1's are the best choice
In the woods, I'd go with R4 tires since they're more resistant to punctures

My personal work is mowing a field that I'm very familiar with and snow blowing my drive and other paved areas. I like R3 turfs for this work, but I'm considering R14's (if they can be mounted on my rims)
What I'd love is Nokian snow tires because they look so cool...but that's a $4K-$5K proposition and "cool" ain't worth that much!

BTW, R3 tires are much better then R4's in snowy conditions...have had experience with both.
I don't use chains...don't need 'em

I would think most here know the difference between a little slippage and sliding sideways off their parking area.
Or not being able to go with a blade full of snow because the tires are spinning

Wow, usually many comment thread where the simple answer distills down to whatever tire is ideal for your particular situation / use and no one is exactly the same, which is why tires come in many tread configurations.
