Likely same your side of the border, I've noticed an explosion of self-storage facilities the last 40 years (Do we have too much Junk ?... but that's another thread.... ). I've noticed many self-storage places here, totally roofed over with PV panels.

Interesting comment as I have a good friend that owns a large storage facility.
Just recently he has been approached by a buyer and and expecting an offer shortly.

Then along came a second buyer that is (today), going to make an 'on the spot' offer.

We are talking serious $$'s from large well funded organizations.
Word is that there is an actual bidding war to buy up storage facilities.

His facility is in a prime location, heavy with retired seniors, close to a major city, lots of condos* and heavy with comfortable retirees, with tons of trails, skiing and lakes everywhere.
In fact recognized as the fastest growing population area in the province.

*Condo storage is typically minimal and can't accommodate all those seasonal toys and sports items that active retirees enjoy.

Forever he's been at 99% capacity with an endless waiting list. More than a few times he's needed to 'hot swap' lockers and often temporally accommodate in makeshift locals.

Having adequate land he's added shipping containers that suit many trades but presently even those are no longer affordable.
Another bonus is that he can park close to 100 RV's plus has a vehicle rental franchise.

I believe he'll retire shortly!

Anyone that lives in the PNW knows the deal. Go to Long View, Wa, and watch all those logs getting exported when local mills are saying they can't get a local resource. Look at the "sort-of" out of sight, dirty, coal piles in Vancouver, BC being sent to China. There is more money to be made in exporting. We have become a natural resource extraction zone: Just like so many other third world nations. And politically this has been re-directed, to a misguided point, to blame our environmental standards. We like EVs because we don't think about the entire process or the Geo-political concerns that go with that. For the three percent that now own damn near everything, it isn't enough, profit-wise, to adapt the ICE in to something that isn't polluting. Which is actually rather easy to do using hydrogen, solar powered separation. This is problematic, for the three percent, because any one can do it. Kind of like, what the 3D printer is going to do.

That report is a bit misleading, and seems written to support their agenda. Rotation age on southern pine for optimum growth is considerably less than 70 years... more like half of that. https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/FR424 Throughout that time other stands will be in various stages of growth; if you own 2000 acres and cut 50 every year, by the time you come to the end of the line the areas you cut first will be coming back online.

Still, there's no such thing as a perpetual motion machine. There is energy exerted to cut the trees and bring them to roadside; more fuel to truck them to the ship; then to bring them across the ocean. Perhaps they should invest in some old fashioned clipper ships.

I think that it's unfortunate that we lost sight of nuclear years ago; that time could have been spent making it a lot safer.
