Calling for thunderstorms tonight and up to ¾" rain...

Margeaux was diagnosed with kennel cough, as we expected. Vet gave her some meds and as long as she doesn't get too excited, no coughs. But, being a 9 month old puppy, hard for her to not get excited.
Definitely a Mama's doggie!! I noticed sometimes if I call her, she cowers...and, maybe an abusive man in her background. I never treat critters badly, so she has to learn to trust...that'll take time, most likely. But, I'm fine with her being a momma's girl. When we're on the sofa, she snuggles up and frequently lies her head on my leg or lap. I'm glad we got her, but I'm not so sure the rescue agency was so truthful about the loving foster family she came from...

Tacoma was dropped off at the body shop and my rental is a Ram full sized 4x4 pickup. I did ask for a pickup since it's easier for me to enter and egress a truck. This one is a big too big though. I'll get used to it over the next week or two, but I'll be glad to get my Tacoma back!!

Got home and started digging potatoes. 5 1/2 buckets and still got 2/3 of the 3rd row to go. Rows about 22 ft long. More than I got from 4 rows last year, nice big ones. Not much compared to the acre or two we grew on the farm every year growing up, but it’s enough for us. Got dark and we were wore out.
Fortunately the rain was late, last night they said it would be raining by 8 pm, now it looks like midnight to start.
Got trash out, pick up delayed due to holiday Monday.

Well, USPS finally tore off one of the mailbox alarm sensors by stuffing in an oversized Amazon package. Surprised it took them this long. Hope the duct tape holds it for now. Was dark and couldn’t see very well.
The alarm works great. I get a text and an email immediately when the box is open. If I’m sitting in my lazy boy, I can see the vehicle at the box when I get the notice. Wife also gets an email. If I get a 2nd one, someone has gotten the mail.

Roy, you might end up liking that Ram.

I know I liked my 2001 dodge 1500. I sold it cheap to my brother in law, and he totaled it.

I still got a fiberglass truck cap for it, anyone need one cheap? 6.5 ft.

Good evening all. 71F for the start, overcast, breezy. Brief shower about 8 this morning, trace of rain then clearing rest of day. Light to moderate wind, and high temp was 91F and DP slid from 68F to 58F. Men's Meeting this morning. Then works on Volagi, left pedal needed adjustment for cleat to lock in. Traded front and rear tires because rear tire wears so much faster. Did get nap in. Still a little warm to practice on driving range in heat of the day.
Covid update: Cooke 3752 confirmed cases, 94 active cases, Montague 2232 confirmed cases, 63 active cases, Grayson, 13677 confirmed cases, 355 active cases. Cooke 49, Montague 49, Grayson 195, new cases.

Yes, humidity is low enough to go outside!!!

Kyle- My O2 got down to 70%- was not fun

Stay safe and be well.
Could you please remind me about your covid case? Hospitalized?
Sad news from my cousin in Germany, the ring bearer at the farm wedding (now 19 and already has 2 old tractors inspired by me after I trained him to use the BH), he had an accident on his motorcycle when a car pulled in front of him and broke his back.
Prayers for your cousin. Hope they can put his spine back together.
Just came in from running a skunk off from the front yard...same one I've gotten on my trail cam the last few days...big white stripe and an unusual gray tail.
P. U......but the coffee sounds great.

RNG, my boss just got through digging for his new home's slab. 3400sq ft. He bought a pop up canopy and drug it around with him. He said keeping the sun off, helped him dig at least 30% longer periods. Nice picture. I wonder about commercial wood products using carboned up trees? I know they can make pellets for fuel, but pine pellets not the best for most folks. A pellet plant here was using the Bastrop fire dead trees to make pellets, and they sent them all the way to Germany for a pellet burning electric plant.

Great picture Popgadget, yes, get one of your grandson too.

Thank you Ron for the photos.

Drew, Sorry about your tragedy at the feeder. God even hears when a sparrow falls. Be careful with ozone. It will kill lung cells too. Also will deteriorate many foams and rubber items....especially latex foam.

Nice batch of spuds BEF. Wish 'taters would do that well at my place.

Prayers for our team, Buppies, Mostly's wife, Stepp and family, people with covid, Don's cousin, LS, Sophie, Jay and wife, and many others....and our country!

64F and partly cloudy @ 22:45, heading down to 56F for the overnight low.

Clouds were looking pretty dark (like rain) and the winds was blowing pretty good when I headed out this morning, so I opted to move dirt rather than spray. Spent most of the day doing that ... much to the groundhogs' dismay I'm sure:

IMG_1313 copy.jpg

Did a little grading on the drive to the gas well on my way back and forth, filling in a low spot.

Broke for lunch around 14:00, had Braunswieger, mayo, and mustard sandwich.

After that placed order for 200# of 8-32-16 starter fertilizer with the co-op, hopefully be in later this week.

Then back to moving more dirt down to the barn and compacting it.

At some point later I decided to mow instead, just to give my legs a break and get out of the sun for a few (was shady where I started) Got upper front mowed. Dogwoods are really starting to color up:

IMG_1314 copy.jpg

Then down to house for another quick snack of five taquitos.

After that I mowed down around house on east side. Still need to do back and west side along with compost/woodlot.

Once I was finished with that I hosed off the spreader and aerator.

Unloaded Menards order from van into bucket on the Kubota, then put pallet forks on and moved a clear greenhouse panel from the garage around back to get it out of the way.

Then I pulled out the fertilizer/soil amendment pallet in the garage and consolidated the peat moss, cow manure, and E-Coriganite onto it and stuck it back inside.

Headed over to the barn after that and moved three pallets of retaining wall block and capstones from the front to the backside of the barn.

Took pallet forks off and put bucket back on and brought down one more bucketload of dirt. Still some more work to do there, but it's getting closer:

Wind doesn't look good for spraying tomorrow (probably Friday), so hopefully get the holes drilled for the forsythias. Probably more dirt hauling as well ...

Got notice that the large wildflower seed order has shipped.

Hope everyone had a great day ... (y)

63° right now...high about 70 or so...

good morning all
never heard a noise last night from storm, maybe I slept through it, but .6 inches on the gauge this morning and light rain
predicted for most of the day. 68 going up to 72 today. Not much wind last night which was surprising, my lead indicator is a pot of mums
on a stump that either blows over or doesn't. It was standing upright this morning so the wind went elsewhere.

garden shed was supposed to show up yesterday, never got a call, might be the second shed that doesn't show up.
First one was destroyed by shipping co...and the replacement doesn't look like it's working out any better.
It's a 400 pound package so I really have to be here when they show up to make sure they just don't leave it in my driveway,
blocking my car and garage. Don't have a grapple or forks to pick it up anymore...

Coffee is done brewing. 50° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 70° with skies turning to partly cloudy skies in afternoon. Sassy got her Vet visit yesterday. All up to date with her shots. Did not get anything else done. I was sore from the previous days project. Off to PT this morning for lower back pain. Then Township offices to pay property taxes. My Aunt is going to visit me for a few hours.
Bath/Shower time.

Buckeye, good potato harvest.

Kyle, maybe I missed it. How is Gator project doing.

Mostly, chipmunk in picture was in Deer feeder. We are not allowed to feed deer here. So feeder is for squirrels, Cranes and some birds.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good morning.
It’s 61 here in Wichita going to 93 with clear skies.
Back home, Davis says front delivered .75”, Tempest says an inch more. I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that for any significant rain event, the Tempest is unreliable. Davis recorded a high rain rate of 3.63 in/hr, it’s the high rain rates that confuse the Tempest.

Yesterday was uneventful, including crossing the front that brought the rain to PA last night. 4 of us are getting the type ratings, so we all flew out together in one of our planes, I got to ride in the back and let someone else deal with the weather. I’ve got to admit, it’s not a bad way to travel.

We have a week of classroom, then a week of simulator, then the check rides, I have to say, that once my suitcase was packed and my shop was in the rear view, it stopped looking like I was going to work. With four of us, it will actually be fun, and learning is always a good thing.

68 and raining. Had a little thunder/lightning. Should see 74.

Roy, enjoy the big truck. It took a while to get used to mine when I move to a full size one, but don't ever plan to go back. Glad Margeaux is improving.

Did more string trimming until the battery died, then mowed for an hour. This rain should damped the ground enough for me to do more tilling and planting. I have oats/wheat/rye/clover/brassica to plant.

Good morning! 69˚F heading to the mid 90s. Apparently this is the 3rd morning in a row below 70 but never checked before sunrise. Good thing tempest has history.

I agree with you Popgadget the tempest rain gauge is good for lightning strikes and rain notifications when the rain starts but the precise measurement I leave for the Cocorahs official rain gauge which I have attached to the same pole.

Whipper’s vet visit is this afternoon, hope to get some drugs to make her feel better. She seems happy and always excited to go on her twice daily walk about but is having digestive problems. I am feeding her scrambled eggs and cottage cheese which she likes so at least she is eating.

Morning all, light rain right now, certainly not the .5" forecasted, but some rain is ok. Better than flooding again.
Got trimming done by road, about 500' , the Stiltgrass was about 2 feet tall and even with three batteries I had to do some charging to get done and do the patches along the driveway. Took a little over 2 hours.

Kyle- once O2 went so low, I avoided hospital, though I would not recommend same for others, I knew how I felt and could breathe ok, ventilator was not high on my list of life experiences I wanted.

PopG- Wichita was the only city I have ever been in where people asked me why I was there, vs. how do you like our city. Did have good steaks though.

TXDon-hope updated medicines are good for whipper and a full recovery.

Stay safe and be well.

Good Morning!!!! 80F @ 5:30AM. Partly cloudy. High 99F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.
There are showers in the forecast for tonight, not a good thing because there's also a chance for dry lightning. Yesterday was the one year anniversary for the start of the Bear fire, which grew into the North Complex Fire, and grew to over 300,000 acres and wiped out two little towns east of here. It also led to almost a week without power, a mandatory evacuation which I ignored, and more than one night without sleep going outside every half hour looking for burning embers falling from the sky.

Thanks for the reminder, Ken. I have batteries on the charger I need to unplug.

Wichita might have some pretty good BBQ, Paul; Kansas City sure did when I used to go there for business years ago.

That hummer might have been murdered by one of its own, Drew. They get pretty possessive around the feeders.

I was very thankful for the canopy on the tractor yesterday as the temps crested the century mark and I just kept on working. The first bit of trench filling was shoveling from the bucket around the pump house, but after that it was all tractor work. Took a couple breaks for water and food, but got the first hundred feet done, so I can get the fire truck out now and the loop to the back of the house is open, too. Turns out that the sand I'm using in the bottom of the trench is almost enough to make up for all the rocks that came out of the trench, since what's left after screening it seems to be enough dirt to fill it up. The wind had a mind of its own, though, sometimes blowing the dust away, sometimes not blowing at all, and sometimes blowing it right back into my face. More than once I had to quit dumping because I could neither see nor breathe, and I finished up brown again from head to toe. The next session will start with a good greasing and air filter cleaning for the tractor.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!
