coffee is brewing. 48° with clear skies this morning. Headingto 85° with thunderstorms in afternoon. Did not make it to Menards yesterday. Got started weeding, trimming and spread weed killer. By the time I was done. I was to tired to doing anything else. Still have one garden to weed this morning. Then going to be a conserve energy day.

Mostly, Door is for my chicken coup. Old door was and here before I moved here. Frame is wore out and door is falling off building.

lovely Fall day, 58 out now going up to 82 in full sun today.

my big project for today is getting gmail to work on one of my two pc's or my laptop. Account messed up 7 years ago and I never fixed it; now school board wants me
to have my own special gmail address and software won't let me make any changes. This is seriously exasperating for a non IT guy...am thinking problem is I need to log out of
software first? I'm trying everything today before I have to admit defeat and take laptop to computer shop nearby, thankfully run by graduate of the same school, so he will be more than helpful I'm sure.

still a little sore from three hours of flagstone grouting yesterday at church but got a lot done and almost caught up with the two
guys laying the stone. I'll take a pic next time I'm there.
I did have to chuckle, one of the guys wanted to motivate me to show up, and he composed this, with apologies to Shakespeare.

58 and dry here, too. Not a cloud to be seen. Yesterday afternoon all the clouds were produced by contrails, and then I guess an upper level wind turned them into pieces of art...my wife and I just stared at the sky excitedly pointing out each next design we found. Going up to 87 today.

Pop, that's a heck of a nice cabinet...what a deal.

Eric, hope that finger is better. Ouch. I'm a big believer in gloves after too many times of similar accidents.

Buppies, the beach sounds good.

Made a run up to Yoder's Market yesterday to pick up a couple of rocking chairs for the porch...our old ones were just worn out, and they put aside two of their new shipment of bentwood hickory rockers for us. Got them both to squeeze into the back seat of the Tundra. Hard to find a more comfortable rocker...they fit like a glove...not sure how they'll hold up on the porch, but we're taking the chance.

Then my wife found the perfect fire ring...with mountains, trees, deer, bears, foxes and birds cut into it...so into the truck bed. Then it was lunch time, and they make great sandwiches, and have many outside picnic tables. Then for a real treat, stopped by Early Mountain Vineyard on the way home so she could taste a flight. She was in heaven. Even ordered panna cotta for a little dessert to share. Pretty good for us for a spontaneous day.

Good morning, the sun soon chased away the fog this morning, expected high of 28C/82F, which is pretty warm for an English September.

RNG, that is an impressive soil screen. Appreciate your dedication in filming that for us into a headwind I had a friend who used to take delight in occasionally swinging his digger bucket upwind when I was approaching with a dumper, I would fall for it every time.

Popgadget, hope you make it to at least 99 before you miss any of that one-day-will-come-in-handy stuff. For me it usually takes about a week to regret a good clear-out.

Good Morning.
It’s 55 and might make it to 80 today with clear skies.

Yesterday was also a perfect day to be outside. So of course, I started it in the shop, just continuing the push to tidy up and organize.
Helped the oldest son with a few chores, then went out for lunch with him, DIL and grandson. We drove to Vansant airport, a rolling grass runway populated with antique airplanes and gliders. It’s a popular weekend destination for motorcycles and all manor of classic cars. There is a little food stand there with great food, and picnic tables under the trees. Saw a lot of old friends, grandson got to see a lot of interesting hardware.

Today starts with going out for breakfast with family for youngest son’s birthday. After that it will be mowing day, starting with Lazer and string trimmer, then hook up Progressive to the tractor and wait for helpers nap time to be over. I want to get everything tidied up before I leave tomorrow for 2-1/2 weeks of training. Not a lot else planned for today, we’ll see what else pops up.

Speaking of string trimmers, someone here was underwhelmed by the performance of their cordless trimmer. I had a similar experience initially, using the Makita supplied .065 line. I tried the Echo .095 Black Diamond line, and it was a completely different story. It winds up fine in the Makita head, lasts longer and cuts just about anything.

Cleanest air we've had in weeks yesterday, but the smoke is supposed to be back this afternoon with changing wind direction.

Thanks for the heads up, Luther, I need to restock the 'fridge.

I couldn't just do nothing yesterday, and ended up reviewing the repair procedure to replace the bloated batteries in the other Apple laptop. Sixty-five steps, and that's just to get the new batteries installed. But reading through the comments, several folks have developed shortcuts that drop the time involved to about an hour. And still others had trouble with some of the connectors, and machines that never came back to life. Think I'll wait until the one comes back from repair, then decide whether or not to just send the second one in.

Also caught a review of a device that will display the security camera output on a regular TV. Thought that might be nice for the master bedroom, but it would also mean running another Ethernet cable up in the attic. Someone mentioned just using an AppleTV and the app put out by Ubiquiti to do the same thing, so I tried it out on the one in the great room and it worked really well. So for a little less money, I'll upgrade the AppleTV in the bedroom and save myself some quality time in the attic.

The neighbor is trying to help a friend rebuild his sawmill, and brought over the output shaft for some repair. A bearing let go and deeply scored the shaft, so it needs built back up with weld metal and machined smooth. I suggested he get the replacement bearing first so we have a good dimension to work to, so maybe next week he'll be back.

Gonna try to get out before it gets too hot and take the red bike for a little ride to make sure it's ready for the weekend. Then not sure what I'll get into after that.

I can sure sympathize with you and Whipper. I know now painful it is to have a dog in pain and you don't know how to fix it.

What, buy another tractor?

Might be cheaper to buy a stacker, keep it off until the hopper is full, then put my bucket under it.

Definitely cheaper to just scoop up the fines with the tractor and bucket I've already got, though.

But if you got another tractor w/ FEL then you could use that to help change your tires.

all I could think of is how RS would like to borrow it. He's always sifting stuff...

making progress on computers this morning, but pc still won't cooperate after defeating all (??) nanny software, I still couldn't get my Microsoft
Office software, which I bought many months ago, to load. I looked it up, likely security software conflict. But I went to the right page and it said everything was turned off.
Did I need to reboot the pc then?

good news is I got laptop to work, deleted old Google account, made a new gmail account, and now trying to add private email address at school server as secondary email.

I think they want all school board emails to go through that server, I'm sure for some security purposes. I asked them if my new gmail address, if I can ever get it to work, will be more
secure than my hotmail one I've had forever, and he said yes. Ok... Particularly if I'm going on Finance and Investment committees, lot of private stuff floating around.
I'm thinking they feel a lot of fleas can come aboard with the hotmail dog, and they want to provide a barrier. I've had several friends whose email accounts were hacked and I got
spam emails afterwards.

Got lawns mowed and flat tire on Lawn tractor- another on order as it's a sidewall hole. Luckily happened towards end of cutting.

PopG- The Van Sant airport looks interesting, near Tinicum where we watched some Polo tournament earlier in the summer. Will have to check it out.
I hope Whipper recovers quickly.

Whipper is doing better today and eating, after her pill for throwing-up, so the vet run is delayed.

Sad news from my cousin in Germany, the ring bearer at the farm wedding (now 19 and already has 2 old tractors inspired by me after I trained him to use the BH), he had an accident on his motorcycle when a car pulled in front of him and broke his back.

Promising to be another beautiful day ...

Probably put box blade on and head over to neighbor's first thing and finish up her little project.

Then head back over here and commence to drilling the planting holes for the forsythia. Would like to get all the holes that get drilled today filled with screened compost so the rain predicted for Wed/Thur can help settle it ... but may need to screen more compost to have enough to that.

If we come up short on transplants, there are probably a few more rhododendrons around here that can be popped out and moved to make up the shortfall.

Other than that, refill bird feeders and finish mowing lower front later this afternoon ... plus haul recycles and garbage up to the cans at the road (it was delayed one day due to the holiday)

May make the run down to Menards later this evening once it gets dark to pick up that order that is ready.

Happy to report that all the flail mowing is up to date. Definitely was the opportune time as to growth. Shortest total time for the area. And it looks good.

Gotta love a lawn all freshly mowed and looking neat.

The best days are spontaneous. With that said, on the way to work I was thinking of the best time to take a day off and drive down the Shenandoah park again. Probably wait till October.
