TwoBit, thanks for explanation.
I grew up outside a town that was at one time 50% gay, and for many that made it
pretty "weird". Thankfully it was also a great opportunity for learning tolerance, which most of us did.
Texas really does have different areas, different people, quite a melting pot.
Different is good, but we can all be good citizens in our own way.

Good morning! 64 now and foggy, high of about 86 later.

Just took it easy yesterday. Had a heavy rain in the afternoon. Made kabobs on the grill for dinner. Quite tasty.

Had this visitor on the side of the garage yesterday

Not sure what I will get into today.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Overwhelmingly in most cultures the mantis is a symbol of stillness.
As such, she is an ambassador from the animal kingdom giving testimony to the benefits of meditation,
and calming our minds. An appearance from the mantis is a message to be still, go within, meditate, get quite and reach a place of calm.

strange take on an apex predator; tons of youtube videos on how ferocious these bugs are
of course it does sit there like a quiet stick, blending in, waiting for its next meal.
maybe it is meditating, who knows...
interesting I was told early on by parents to leave that bug alone, not to hurt it, that it was a good bug like a lady bug.

Good Morning.
It’s 71 with a high of 81 forecast. Another overcast day with rain predicted.

Yesterday.s rains did not really materialize, other than a few random showers. Son was able to grind over 20 stumps.

I spent most of the day in the shop, not sure I accomplished as much as I would have liked, but steady progress isn’t a bad thing.

Today I’ll get some shop time in the morning, but have to go to Ogdensburg, NY this afternoon. Tomorrow and Wednesday I’ll be traveling as well, but I’m home every night.

Good morning! 71˚F clear skies, heading to the upper 90s. The next three days will be cloudless and progressively hotter and we should be creeping into the 100s. Blood test early and then cards later maybe pool time in-between. I also need to start building a closet shelf organizer unit for the extra bedroom, today will be the planing day.

Good Morning!!!! 63F @ 5:30AM. Abundant sunshine. High 89F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Nice weather we're having now, but it'll be back into the 100s by the weekend.

It's another sad statement on our times that you have to contemplate security for your gathering, Drew. But glad the local police department is being proactive, and offering to help.

Kept the bandsaw singing all day yesterday, and got most of the material cut for the grizzly. The neighbor still hasn't come up with the little I-beams for the bars, though, and that'll be some tough cutting. We're supposed to hit the junkyard this afternoon for a couple more pieces of pipe and square tube, and I've still got saddle cuts to make on most of the pieces. Getting some cleanup done in the garage while the saw is working, but being out in the smoke is getting to my throat and lungs a little more than I'd like.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start.

Morning all, about another .75 inches of rain last night. Still cloudy/windy
Looks like all friends/family on Long Island just fine, some flooding is about it.

Heat coming back this week. Need to cut up some trees that were felled last week and get the cable company to check the speed again, now that we have the new cable in the ground.

Stay safe and be well.

Paul, where was your son grinding stumps? That looks like hard work.

My next door neighbor has a very tall, very dead tree that would wreck their home if it fell, and maybe if I were better with trigonometry I could calculate whether the top
would hit my home, but I think by eyeballing it the answer is yes. I'm also guessing about $3k to take it down based on local prices so fully understand why they are procrastinating.

So at some point, I need to gently request he do something about it. Particularly with hurricane season upon us.

and I've still got saddle cuts to make on most of the pieces.

Have you considered using a hole saw to make the cuts?
I’ve had pretty good luck doing them that way.
Harbor freight might even have a cheap jig to do them in the drill press with a hole saw. I know that there are some expensive fixtures out there.

Good Morning.

80F and sunny @ 10:45, HI 86, DP 73 ... heading up to a high of 87F again today.

Somewhat of a disaster this morning - The Woman confessed she has let us run out of beans ...

Fortunately, we do have Taster's Choice ... so it's Kaffee con Leche this morning.

Got order for 20# of milky spore to treat the lawn grubs placed last night.

Also placed a small order with Eden Bros. for some seed - perennial and fall-blooming wildflowers, lavender, cat mint, and catnip ... which should brighten things up a bit.

The lavender and cat mint are for the groundhogs - apparently they don't care for the smell of either one.

The catnip is for the cats of course.

Hope to get another order placed in the coming days for bulbs and a particular color of peony (light pink) The Woman has been wanting.

Today's agenda includes finishing up the clean out of that east side planting bed along the edge of the woods and getting the hosta planted over there.

Probably do further prep work (leveling, add more screened compost) on the planting bed on the east side of the frog pond.

Then later this afternoon or evening, once the sun drops behind the trees to the west, will probably start the gutter clean out on the front of the pole barn.

Suspect it's now probably dry enough to move forward on the creek crossing, so that's a possibility as well.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... (y)

70°F and foggy this morning under clear skies, going up to 93° today. We'll be pushing 100° this week again, so heat advisory has been issued.

Storms popped up on and off much of the day on Saturday, but we really didn't get much in the way of rain. Most either missed us, or only lasted about 5-10 minutes. Still, made it mostly an indoor day.

Sunday was dry, and hot. I spent about three hours taking the line trimmer for a long walk around the back yard fence, the house, the trees and driveway in front, and the pond and swale. I was a tired and sweaty mess when I was done, but everything looks better now.

RNG, my friend did indeed make it back from Kabul. He posted some pictures on Facebook yesterday from his date night with his wife Saturday night at the Potomac Winery just outside DC.

70°F and .05 inches rain. Except for some rather robust winds, Linda pretty much passed us by.

Got the texture paint sprayed yesterday. Wielding that hopper gun was a workout, especially the ceiling. Although I had taken care to mask along the walls, I managed to excessively spill probably a gallon or more in the uncovered center area. Not a real problem as it will be covered but will still require extra cleanup today.

Zoom Happy Hour this afternoon.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

sun has come out finally, though one more shower may pass through
weather station says 3.75 inches
water ditch overflowed again, soaking my butterfly bushes
wouldn't be surprised if closest one drowned

73F steady rain started little after 3pm around midnight fading off.

Been slow motion day enough so caught 30 min nap.
Going to be inside night because of the rain. :(

Enjoy the day all.

Thunder is getting quite loud here in north St Louis city. Sounds like I'll be sitting in traffic a bit this afternoon.

Hey everyone, sorry I'm tardy (again), Good Afternoon!

I'm very busy with my remodel finally getting started over the last few months. I'm getting up to speed in my new job at Cisco, but its still weird due to the Virus. My daughter is past 12.5 and rapidly turning into a teen and lovely young lady. My girlfriend and I are still doing well. I need to load pictures into my laptop from my phone...

Basically the basement bathroom is 100% functional (needs repainting, long story). I've moved exisitng HVAC into the attic and split the upstairs (inc. the too be built addition new Master BR), I added a mini-split to the "garden room and now we eat there every day. I put a new HVAC into the "utility room" in the basement and reducted for the main floor and basement, thereby clearing room in the center of the basement for the 9' pool table. I've had a TON of landscaping done to reclaim brick walkway paths into very nice paver patios, and he is starting a raised garden bed area for my GF next. All the former mossy jumbled brick walkways are pea gravel and slate stepping stones. Last week the Plumber upgraded all the existing bathroom toilets to match the basement, and we will soon start the refurb of the current master bath (tiny) and other 2 bathrooms (when all done, I will have 3 full bath & 2 powder rooms.

The new mudroom and coat closet which will have the door to the attached 2-car garage. my builder is mudding the drywall. Meeting with a painter tonight. The Pool refurb including new concrete apron, new pad for the hot-tub that project starts 9/14 (after GF, I and my daughter return from Maui vacay). My son (36 is getting married 1st time in Sept.).

I've ordered all the kitchen cabinets, next we are converting the old dining room into my office and expanding the kitchen 2' + into that area to add square feet to the NEW kitchen. I've bought the new fridge, dishwasher, wall oven and gas cooktop, deliveries start this week.

So please forgive my absence, I've been busy, productive, and HAPPY for the first time in a very, very long time...

I hope and pray ALL of you are doing well.

Be well,
David

Good for you David. Wishing you the best.

   / Good morning!!!! #137,480
Hey David, I know where you are at because the same is happening here. Not quite as extensive as your remods but much the same. Garage (Barn) kitchen and 2 bathrooms to do and all associated painting, tiling etc. Paid for the new wall oven and cooktop yesterday and Hitachi fridge is on order. Kitchen designer guy needs a shove to get this all moving. Plumbing supplies have arrived. Upgrading pipes from 1/2" to 3/4" and new pressure pump.
Supposed to be ripping off old guttering today but it has decided to rain. The rain is welcome though.
So much to do before house is re-clad...
