Don, thanks in no small measure to you, I can tick the last 9 of the items on those guidelines and my meat consumption is now so small our local butcher decided to retire.
Would hate to ever give up eating fish though - is that significant when it comes to determining the risks of heart disease?
Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn says fish protein, actually all animal protein, results in the production of TMAO by way of lecithin and carnitine, in the gut. TMAO causes inflammation and damage to blood vessels. The following YouTube videos may be helpful.
Fish gives you the highest rate of TMAO as Dr. E. says in the YouTube below.
In addition to blood vessel inflammation,
1. All fish contain cholesterol, with salmon and shrimp having higher cholesterol in comparison to other seafood
2. PCBs, dioxin, mercury, and other toxic pollutants contaminate the fish supply
3. A look at fish consumption in the Iowa Women’s Health Study showed no protective effect in coronary heart disease or stroke mortality
4. The FDA & EPA issued a joint advisory warning to pregnant and nursing mothers about the toxic effects of mercury from fish consumption
5. There is no scientific evidence showing the addition of fish to a healthy diet increases an individual’s health even more
Many healthy diets around the world contain fish, but are they the reason why the diets are healthy? Are there any adverse health effects of eating fish that you should worry about?
