Enjoy your evening all.
I just installed a Dashcam in the Ranger and liked it so much I went and bought another for the Mustang while they were still on special.
Here is a grab from the cam. It is 1080P but it uploaded as a 720P on you tube but quality is great.

Have you ever counted the number of hummingbirds at your place at the same time?
It's so hard to count since they move so fast...but after the young fledged one year, my wife and I and friends watched separate areas of the yard at the same time, and estimated over 100, easy.

Some of the feeders are each guarded by a male, but others are shared by 6 or 8 birds at the same time: some landed, some hovering. Some on our flowers. Seems the best time for a frenzy is just before nightfall, or just before a storm. Over the years we've had a few males that were distinguishable, and we "named" them.

We've been wondering how we can downsize from one year to the next, but as more arrive in spring and "fight" over the feeders, my wife puts more out.

I only put 4 feeders out, but find the birds will "fight" at one while other feeders are empty. So I'm not sure they're fighting because they're hungry, or if it's a territory thing, or they just like to fight.

I'd be hard pressed to count their numbers because I can only see two feeders at a time. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe there were a couple dozen during the summer months, and maybe twice that during the spring and fall migrations.

Once the migrating birds leave in the fall, I'll cut back to two feeders to keep the resident birds, maybe two or three pairs, happy. That also keeps the refill interval to no more than 4 or five days, and in the cooler temperatures, never got a wiff of that sour smell that spoiled nectar would have. Changing it every day, even in the summer, might be more work than it's worth. One goes on the north side of the house, one on the south side, where the birds can't see one from the other. I think that helps minimize the fighting and one bird trying to "own" a feeder.

I let all the feeders go dry before I refill 'em, and sometimes that means there's nothing for them to eat for breakfast, which for them starts at daybreak. By 10 AM they'll be filled again, and the birds are back to their usual shenanigans. Takes about 2-3 days for them to empty a feeder, and I've never seen any sign that the nectar spoils in that amount of time. The insides of the feeder will get a little slippery, but that takes several weeks, and a quick rinse with dish soap and a brush takes care of it.

FWIW, I read that anything besides white sugar and water is bad for them, and they don't seem to have any trouble at all finding the feeders without red coloring in the nectar.

Do you add food coloring to water...red?
We didn't want to stop feeding hummingbirds but small bears must of thought it was Kool Aid,and glass feeders took real hard.

They say not to use food coloring in hummingbird feeders, according to what I read it can cause problems in the birds and that it doesn’t help attracting them. We stopped the coloring 5-6 years ago.

Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn says fish protein, actually all animal protein, results in the production of TMAO by way of lecithin and carnitine, in the gut. TMAO causes inflammation and damage to blood vessels. The following YouTube videos may be helpful.

Fish gives you the highest rate of TMAO as Dr. E. says in the YouTube below.

In addition to blood vessel inflammation,

1. All fish contain cholesterol, with salmon and shrimp having higher cholesterol in comparison to other seafood

2. PCBs, dioxin, mercury, and other toxic pollutants contaminate the fish supply

3. A look at fish consumption in the Iowa Women’s Health Study showed no protective effect in coronary heart disease or stroke mortality

4. The FDA & EPA issued a joint advisory warning to pregnant and nursing mothers about the toxic effects of mercury from fish consumption

5. There is no scientific evidence showing the addition of fish to a healthy diet increases an individual’s health even more

Unless it’s changed fairly recently, the heavy metal warnings to pregnant women involved deep sea game fish that dive very deep, swordfish, tuna wahoo, etc…

Nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of methylmercury. The ones that live longer have more accumulated.
If you regularly eat types of fish that are high in methylmercury, it can accumulate in your blood stream over time. Methylmercury is removed from the body naturally, but it may take over a year for the levels to drop significantly. Thus, it may be present in a woman even before she becomes pregnant. - webMD
