today's entry in the Tomato Olympics is a tie for Gold, 1lb 7oz.
I'm sure some of you will grow much larger tomatoes than that.

John Deere bush hogging along the Delaware Canal this morning

Get your thumb off the scale! LOL

Medscape Covid notes:
This week 93% of all covid cases are the Delta variant.

7 day average of new cases June 22 - 11,000. August 3 - 85,000

The Delta variant is expected to have a quick rise and a quick drop as what happened in U.K.
When will Delta start to burn out here? 5 predictions:
1. August 11,
2. mid August - mid September
3. September
4. mid October
5. unclear

As of August 3, 49.7% U.S. population vaccinated (80.1% over 65 vaccinated)

by Nov. 1, 64% of people in the U.S. will be immune to a variant like Delta taking those infected and those vaccinated.
Good update. Only thing I can't figure out is how they know that the 93% are Delta...I was told that the regular local testing most people get only determines that it is C-virus, but not which variety. Maybe this info was wrong, or maybe they are extrapolating from some samples that receive further testing.

It's official: Lake Oroville broke the all time record low water level last night at midnight. The previous record was 645', as of right now, it's sitting at 643 and getting even lower by the minute. The intakes for the Hyatt Power House are only a few feet from coming fully out of the water, shutting down one of the state's biggest hydroelectric plants, right in the middle of one of the worst heat waves ever...
It is so sad, between this and the fires.

Here is an Alcohol story: (bet they wish they would have had a salad)

"Police said they believed alcohol use was involved: “Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor for pedestrians.

Pablo Tiquiram Us, 29, and Chilambalam Tiquiram Us, 20, went to the crossing in Charlotte around 5:10 a.m. Tuesday to remember their brother Baltazar Tiquiram Us, 27, who was killed there when his van was hit by a light rail train a week earlier.

They were walking north on the southbound tracks in the early hours of the morning when they were struck and killed by a Lynx train from the Charlotte Regional Transportation System (CATS) at the same location as their brother."

Maybe a cure for stupid.

Four years ago when my one building burned, my tractor, which started the fire, ZTR and countless other things were in there. About 6 pm after all the fire related people had gone, my adjuster showed up and looked things over. He asked how I was going to mow grass and some other things. I told him I didn’t have a clue. He wrote me a forward payment of $7500 on the spot so I could replace essential items.
Things like that are why I love them.
My experience with them has been similar.

Had a good trip down to my mom's yesterday...but it rained all day at the beach and was sunny here. We had lunch with her, my wife pulled up a bunch of our son's wedding pix on my mom's computer and showed them to her, since she wasn't able to make the trip. I did some chores, like replacing some ceiling light bulbs, installed a new cellular modem for her pacemaker box, and unlocked her email account. Tunnel traffic was light, so not bad for a rainy day.

Today went back to the mountains for a longer climb at Sugarloaf and Hogback. Met up with a USGS crew that was surveying the drought impact on the stream I was hiking across...it was dry. They had on waders, said it was dry in the middle section but not higher up, or in the lower section (streams sometimes disappear underground when dry conditions and surface lower down the mountain).

There was that welcome feeling of Autumn in August, knowing it would be back in the 90s rest of the week.

I stopped watching pro sports too. I can’t even get excited for college football either.

Have not watched olympics. Usually never watched much summer ones anyway. Coverage in past years was horrible, about 20 minutes of commercials per 10 min of sports. I hate NBC.

Also read they can’t quickly test the cv variant, they just know it’s cv. Pretty sure they blaming variant for more control. If they make us wear masks at work again I just may retire early, although i sit pretty much alone all day and only wore one if someone came close. MD was under 100 per day for a few weeks, now back at 700 today. Hospital and death rates still down.

Got the new grill igniter button and it works, didn’t have to install the spark end, old one still works. Plus it came with 2 buttons, so got a spare. Less than $20. Now where to store the other parts so I can find them when needed.

home late from work, gas light came on, forgot to stop this morning, so ran into Costco. Since there, went in and got a few things, but forgot oil for the truck. It takes 5w30, my other 2 are 0w20.
Hope to do Subaru Saturday.

Need to rearrange garage, and remove wheelchair ramp. For 20 yrs I had a Labor Day picnic here, some years over 100 people. I supplied and grilled meat, people brought sides. Would clean out garage and set food up there. Haven’t had it in 2 years now, don’t think I’ll resume, but do want to clean garage.
Got an old Sony projection tv that’s gonna get cut up, it’s mostly plastic. Amazing what trash guys take if you make it small enough. I’ve tossed mattresses after cutting into small pieces.

Coming home from dinner tonight, a young deer jumped the guardrail, crossed the lane and hit the saddlebag of my Triumph. Never went down, but bike felt like it lurched 2 feet sideways. The only damage was the LH saddlebag is toast. The deer had a broken neck.

The adrenaline was pumping, was trying to clear the road and 2 young guys in a Mustang convertible thought it was cute to give me the finger and tell me I was a moron for being in the road removing a dead deer and saddlebag.

A. It is good I don’t carry, because the adrenaline was pumping,

B. I couldn‘t find anything close at hand to throw at them.

Shame they didn’t stop…..

Local health department says it takes 4 - 6 weeks to confirm the variant. So not sure how they “know” 93% are Delta….
