Coming home from dinner tonight, a young deer jumped the guardrail, crossed the lane and hit the saddlebag of my Triumph. Never went down, but bike felt like it lurched 2 feet sideways. The only damage was the LH saddlebag is toast. The deer had a broken neck.

The adrenaline was pumping, was trying to clear the road and 2 young guys in a Mustang convertible thought it was cute to give me the finger and tell me I was a moron for being in the road removing a dead deer and saddlebag.

A. It is good I don’t carry, because the adrenaline was pumping,

B. I couldn‘t find anything close at hand to throw at them.

Shame they didn’t stop…..

Holy cow.

Glad you were not hurt. Very fortunate you didn’t fall after the deer hit your bike.

I’d still have the adrenaline pumping!

Good evening all. 72F for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Light wind day, variable cloudiness till rain fell late afternoon, and high temp was 89F, DP 66F. Worked on new computer, getting Garmin programs loaded and updating the devices. Also had dog sitting, bike ride and nap. Dog bell woke me up when SIL came by to pick up dog .
Covid update: Cooke 3350 confirmed cases, 76 active cases, Montague 1876 confirmed cases, 35 active cases, Grayson, 12106 confirmed cases, 286 active cases.

Bird had one almost land in back yard when in STL. They decide not to after we talked to them. They had to climb about 100 feet to clear the houses on top of the hills. Talked with SIL He felt Liberty Mutual paid but as good as anyone on claims

Also read they can’t quickly test the cv variant, they just know it’s cv. Pretty sure they blaming variant for more control.

Good update. Only thing I can't figure out is how they know that the 93% are Delta...I was told that the regular local testing most people get only determines that it is C-virus, but not which variety. Maybe this info was wrong, or maybe they are extrapolating from some samples that receive further testing.

I'm not sure where Medscape got the 93% but this article (8-4-21) explains that the test tells the covid virus and then followup test define the variant.

Been there, done that, except the guy driving the first car that came along got out his pocket knife and put the deer out of its misery.

I didn't go down, either, but went way off the road. Didn't hit anything and stayed upright. The aluminum saddlebag on that side took most of the blow. I purchased a bar clamp at a local hardware store, and a large roll of tape. Applied lots of tape to the jaws of the clamp, used it to straighten the bag, and returned the clamp for a refund. Jesse bags rock; I have something like four pairs of them. and most have been crash tested.

You can mitigate many of the risks in motorcycling, but deer aren't one of them. Even the best riding suit won't keep you from, literally, losing your head. Yeah, knew a guy that had that happen, but he was doing well over the ton when it happened.

66F and clear, heading down to a low of 62F in the overnight. Heading into a warmer period for the Ten Day, highs in the upper 80's/low 90's.

Today went a different direction than I had anticipated.

I started off early this morning raking up leaves in the second circle as part of the process of preparing it for further planting.

Got a good bit of that done where I had previously sprayed it for weeds, probably 4 or 5 bucketloads of debris raked and hauled up to the compost pile.

The Woman showed up and after some discussion and a little research, we decided to removed the 10 or so honeysuckle bushes in that area. I had considered replanting them elsewhere because they were really doing all that well under the trees. But opted instead to just remove and get rid of them because: 1. they are old (although the last time we pruned them back they came right back), but primarily because: 2. turns out they are an invasive species.

This opens up parts of the area to a little more afternoon light, which may help the stuff that is already growing in there and whatever we end up planting in addition.

While I was doing that The Woman took the loppers to the forsythia growing at the northwest edge of the second circle. It was originally one bush, but when I excavated the topsoil to add the second circle, it got piled up around the bush and it propagated itself via drooping stems into the soil and there are now about 8 forsythia bushes where there once only one. Probably all of them will get transplanted along the west property line in the lower front to form a hedge ... which should eventually reduce the leaves from the neighbors' trees blowing over into our yard. Still a lot more to do to get them all cut back so they can be dug out and transplant though.

After I finished up digging out the honeysuckle and hauling them up to the burn pile we took a break for brunch. Had an egg, two sausage patties from the pigs that they neighbor raised (was good, but not quite as good as the bacon IMO) and a couple pieces of toast. Woman had an omelette with some medium hot pepper from the garden. I had a bite of that as well - was good.

After that I fueled up the Cub and she went to town on the front, which since the weed and feed has really greened up and started growing. Usually this time of year, it's looking pretty brown and gone into dormancy ... but with the rain we've had it's still growing and looking pretty good. Don't know exactly how far she got, but I'm guessing she got most of the lower front done.

By that time it was around 15:00 and since I hadn't gone to sleep last night I headed inside to take a little nap. Had only intended to sleep for around 3 hours or so but it was feeling soooo good when the alarm went off at 18:00 I just killed it and went back to sleep ... ... ended up waking up around 21:00.

Will probably work on drawing some water for partial water changes and maybe a little kitchen clean up before I head back to bed.
