That part I like. Actually all of my cars were bought online since the late 90s, with a little email haggling. Only go to dealer for the pickup.
There's a local Ford dealer here that doesn't haggle on price of new or used cars. They set the price on the window. You either like it or don't like it. They've been doing it that way for quite a while. We've purchased two used cars through them. Price was always comparable to on-line price estimates, less noticeable flaws/issues. Not a great deal, but not a bad deal either. Never left 100% happy, but never left mad. Felt like a fair deal.

At least they don't pull the "I'll have to go talk to my sales manager" schtick.

We got some dealers here that do that, not the best prices.

It's pretty hard to heat your house during a power outage... which on occasion can last for weeks. I know, I know, everyone except me is getting a big A generator yet that defeats the purpose. Then again the only things I really NEED to keep running are my freezers... not an issue during a blizzard.
Welcome to 19th century technology. You can be warm and toasty without electricity. Ben Franklin invented a marvelous box called a wood stove. For our next trick, a small camping generator will run for hours on a gallon of gas, and is plenty of power to run a pellet stove, freezer, router, maybe a TV if not all at once.

A few early years of my life were spent without electricity. The gravity wood/coal furnace kept the house warm.

Nissan slashes 2022 LEAF price to $27.5K, under $20K after Fed Tax credit

I see the story about the Nissan Leaf price cut is still in the new cycle this morning and is getting the attention on some Leaf forums.

Leafs are not a Tesla but based on our 2016 Leaf SL they are quality EVs. Early batteries sucked in hot climates but the 3rd generation batteries 2018 and forward seem okay based on our new 2020 40 kWh battery that has a 150 mile range.

Should tax credits change over the next year that would enable getting a 229 mi range Nissan Leaf SL Plus I would have to rethink waiting on getting a Tesla and keep tunneling towards the mother load in the meantime. :)

Hence the rest of my post, where I mentioned that the only thing I really need power for is to run my freezers.

That's why I won't have an attached garage. EVs aren't the only vehicles which have been known to catch fire.

Drone video of the new Tesla factory down the road taken a few weeks ago. It is huge!

It's why the building code requires a 1 hour firewall separation between an attached garage and the rest of the house.

A one hour firewall does not do much when the lithium chemistry batteries used in cars can burn for many hours and are very difficult to put out. Some fire departments in Europe have large "dumpsters" they fill with water into which they dunk burning electric cars. Never could figure out how they planned to pick up a burning car....

Later,
Dan

With a grapple, of course.

They just hold it by the string and dunk it like a tea bag...!

I'm 25 miles from the fire station... and since it's volunteer would probably take 45 minutes to mobilize.

You probably shouldn't have an attached garage.

Before i met my wife, she had renters almost burn her house down. Volkswagen caught on fire in the garage. Then the natural gas furnace decided to join in.

I don't and won't have one, even if the FD was next door. An ounce of prevention and all of that...
Another problem is appearing, with so called keyless ignitions; people are forgetting to shut the engine off and getting CO poisoning.

Good point on the CO.

When lumber prices come down a bit, i'm putting up a smallish detached.

It's coming down. I read the weekly wholesale reports and also check HD, to get an idea; 7/16 OSB is down to 27$/sheet. A local lumberyard was selling it for $22 last week but it didn't last long. I suspect they got a tractor trailer load in and didn't want to get stuck with it as prices dropped. They are a small independent lumberyard yet still stay competitive with the big guys.

Most have returned to nature but for years when a rural farmstead got car truck tractor the garage were built on opposite side of the gravel road where the home stood. This was common in the 1920-1940 era. You could them with 3 foot of new wood on one end as vehicles got longer.

Currently my dream EV is a Tesla with LFP battery pack for safety and longevity.
