... and lookin g at the picture of the 53 foot van trailer and the pickup truck, an empty 53 foot van trailer might weigh 10,000 pounds, well within the towing capacity of the pickup truck. heck, I pull a 28 foot gooseneck with my 350 Ford all the time, loaded with 20,000 pounds of round bales. You can tell the van is empty, look at the tires on the dolly, they aren't squatting at all. Not fond of the tow method but he's actually 100% legal weight wise. and if the dolly is securely attached to the landing gear, there is no issue other than maybe lights.

AIR BRAKES - if he can't generate the 60+ psi to release them, they have been mechanically disabled. Semi's run 125psi air with low pressure alarms that sound off at 60psi-brake warning

Well considering that the trailer has air brakes and the truck don't, brakes would be totally optional...

Tractor/trailers have spring loaded brakes. DOT doesn't care if it moves - it must stop. Takes 60+ psi to release brakes

Bypassing the spring brake is easy to do with basic hand tools. I have to do it myself occasionally as have many truck drivers when they spring an air leak and need to get a few miles down the road to the exit.

They stop only if in adjustment. If the slacks have too much travel they don't work anyway.

If he had a crew cab, there would be that much more steel between the driver and the trailer when it comes off the dolly and through the rear window.

I've never watched it but have talked to storage unit owners who said the stuff in them isn't worth the rent people pay. OTOH I knew a woman years ago who owned 5 dining room sets and kept rotating them in and out of storage... don't ask me why. She did move every two years though, making tax free money on the home sales each time.

Unless short term or business related monthly rent quickly exceeds value... from my experience invested in units...
