Old style tin roofing for barn

Any suggestions where I can buy that old style tin roofing that you see on old barns? Like in the picture, but new.

Good quality paint would stick nicely to that rust. I would not replace it for cosmetic reasons alone. I ripped off a pile to replace it with Cedar shakes and that was nice but twenty years later a big expensive mistake.

Here, people are buying all the rusty tin that they can to decorate the ceilings of their homes. Craigslist will have it from time to time, but for best results, it's better to just buy it and stain it yourself to get that look. There are dozens on websites with different formulas on how to do this. I think bleach, vinegar and rust are used, but I would do a search first and read up on it. The results that I've seen have looked pretty realistic.

What are you looking to do? Replace because of rust? Replace damaged pieces? Add new pieces to match?

If it's just for appearance, they make aluminum colored roof coatings that will seal almost better than new.

Avoid the big box stores if you need to buy. They're at least double in price over metal roofing suppliers. You should be able to find a few near you.

I had good luck with a brand called Henry. But I forget the type of paint I used. A few years ago, I painted another building with a different brand, it was "fibered". Turned out to be a huge mistake. Did not last a year. The Henry building is still looking good, must be five or six years now.

Most of those metal paints, the "silver" roofing type, are expensive, and you have to read how-long they last.

None of my buildings got primer, all are tin roofs, just the pressure washer.

Thanks for that information... didn't know about Henry. Plan to buy it now, There is 869 Rubberized or 555 Fibered - Fibered is 7-year limited warranty and the 869 is 12-year limited warranty. So 869 is it!!!

Good luck, don't paint on a hot sunny day. Especially if you are on the roof. And wear a good pair of sun glasses.

I would use a high quality INDUSTRIAL enamel and an airless sprayer. I don't believe in PRIMER. I have been painting stuff a long time and never had an experience where I wished I had used PRIMER.
