If you are in the business of buying and selling equipment, that's one thing, but I don't see any advantage as a contractor to have a large fleet of (beyond its prime) equipment. It's (usually) all just too unreliable and expensive in time and parts. ESPECIALLY, for a one man show! There is no shortage of work for a good guy with a hand full of pieces of good newish equipment.

I have to say thet he's adjusted the way I work now.
Iover thought everything, and was an **** perfectionist on most projects that led me to not do some projects
for fear of the project not being 'perfect"
The way Andrew slaps things together and gets away with it make me say - what the heck, do it and forget about perfection.

Yeah, don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good'.

Perfectionists are often paralyzed by not wanting to compromise. The real world is full of compromises, and we all have our "good enough" limits that may different than what others have. When I was a kid, my dad seemed offended when I said something I made was "good enough".

I admire people who get stuff done, including the compromises they made. Some of AC's compromises make sense to me. He is a doer who solves problems and seems very productive. He also gets credit for painting things where others might leave bare metal to rust. Even if he only uses a rattle can and minimal surface prep. Bare metal is apparently "good enough" for some.

I heard if you can walk away from the landing, it was a "good" landing.

Did you happen to see AC's last video where he SMASHES the starter to get it out of the dozer? When he breaks the back of the starter off, I'm thinking; there goes the core value. Then he uses a big pipe to "wrench" it out. When that didn't work, MORE POWER! as Tim the Tool Man would say. I'm surprised he didn't break the engine block. :confused2:

Watch the one where he removed the telehandler cylinders.

What's amazing about it? Don't you ever clean your equipment?

I pressure wash all my equipment, including tractors, lawn mowers and golf carts when they need cleaning. Some of us don't have climate controlled parking. :confused2:

Good way to remove decals from equipment.

You pressure wash machinery wid open bearings or single seal bearing bearing gets 1 shot of grease right after wash. Ain't got grease gun roll de machine over turn or two to recoat balls or rollers.

Nobody watch de Morgans to learn from Mike, widout Melissa he got no show. He halfway decent equipment operator and slick salesman's dream. Why he gotta announce make & model everything he touches? Get paid fer dat maybe?

I agree. That was indeed a hard video to watch. He would either crack the bellhousing, or have pieces from the starter nose fall around the flywheel. Could get messy really fast.

In the end, I'm sure the old starter would just need a good cleaning, new brushes, good lubrification and was good to go. I've done it several times.

I believe I'd have removed the skid plate.:)

Just watched the video. I wouldn't let anyone know I removed a starter with a skid steer!

Did he know the new starter was of a smaller profile? I don't get that impression and wonder how he intended to get the new starter bolted in.

Can you imagine a guys bad luck buying used equipment that has had such talent working on it?

Again, I can say, I watched the video and never once got annoyed or bored. Tried watching a dirt monkey video and had to turn it off. NO INTEREST in watching a chain saw being refueled! Same with Diesel Creek!

Me too!
I would have NEVER attempted his butcher job!

Most of his butcher jobs I’d go along with but I’d never consider ripping a starter off with a skid steer. He’s very lucky the bell housing didn’t break.

I watch his videos mainly because he doesen't force his opinion or views on life in his videos . I also hope he never gets a big sponcer and becomes a infomercial . Just good down home shade tree meckanics with a touch of rube goldberg.:drink:

The Cat D4 starter removal debacle is just another in a long line of butcher jobs executed by Andrew. He’s no mechanic and I question his reasoning and analytical skills.

Seems like the job called for removal of the skid plate, not mass destruction and brute for e.

I wouldn’t hire anyone with such poor skills.

I agree with you on his Mr. Fixit stuff, but his earthwork/construction work seems decent.
