Got my license with CW requirement in around 84, later granted advanced status by Gov. Only motivaton was mobile communications with impressive repeater systems. Long distance phone calls were expensive back then and cell phones were just emerging. Owned a Drake TR7, but I dont think I ever plugged it in.

Too bad because the Drake TR7 was the crowning achievement of the RL Drake company, and is considered a pretty decent rig even today. They still fetch some money on the used market.
