Can I start my engine with no hydraulic fluid? Or would that cause damage, just want to make sure everything is good and I would hate to have to drain it again.
Before refilling the tractor with Hydraulic fluid that is costly, you can fill it about 3/4 way with diesel and run the tractor. This way, the diesel acts both as a lube and as a cleaner. After about 10 or less mins, you can drain the diesel and refill later with the right fluid.
I have seen very mixed thoughts on running diesel fluid. I this really safe?
Why are you wanting to crank it without fluid? I'm kinda slow.....![]()
I rebuilt just the bottom end due to the crank breaking while idling in the driveway, not exactly sure why that happened, just want to make sure there are no other anomalies if I can.

I've done this 2X with my YM2610. No issues. Most if not all the refurb dealers also do this. Ideally, On-Road Diesel with LOW SULFUR works the best. Not K1 Kerosene or Off-Road dyed diesel either.
The clean the reusable hydraulic filter, diesel and a med-toothbrush is used in a 5-gallon bucket.
Others can chime in here too.
You can buy a 5 falling bucket of "universal tractor fluid" at Tractor supply company for $25. NO WAY would I start my tractor up dry esp a powershift. Buy the cheap oil if all you did was use it as a test oil for whatever your reason is. $25 is worth not destroying a pump. Heck I'd rinse the metal dust and slivers out with diesel and if I filled with that oil would not worry about running it at the normal lube, honestly. But I might spend another $10 more for a little better quality oil.
You realize for like a decade now all on road, off road and home heating oil are all ULSD. They no longer make seperate batches for on and off road. All new off-road stuff which is the lion share that consumes fuel all runs DEF now .
WOW. Were there other problems with the crank prior? How did the governor look when you had the bottom apart?
Well someone is still putting in the red pee color in the off-road diesel.![]()
All that is is just a dye. That's to let the highway man know if he pulls you over are you running taxed fuel or not in your truck. The red stains the test strips...and if they got so high as to impound the truck and got a warrant to search it the filters and all will be stained along with all the red fuel in it.
