3015H rear Ballast weight?

I have a 3015H with a FEL, and would like to add a homemade ballast weight in the back. The lift is rated for 3306 lbs at the ends & 2420 at 24” I was thinking of either using a 55 gallon barrel which would be over 1000# or a 30 gallon barrel which would be about 600# which one should I go with?

600 pounds of TPH counterbalance should suffice for 90% of your FEL lifts with air inflated rear tires.

With tractor in 2-WD, equipped with R4/industrial tires and bucket empty, your tractor should not mark lawn. (At least in north Florida.)


600 pounds of TPH counterbalance should suffice for 100% of your FEL lifts with 'loaded' rear tires.

I suggest searching for a 600+ pound Box Blade or a 600+ pound rototiller as counterbalance. Both implements are usually available used at reasonable prices.


1,000 pounds of TPH counterbalance will be ample for 100% of your FEL lifts with air inflated rear tires.


Your Branson has tremendous FEL lift capacity for a 3,000 pound bare weight tractor. If you have stability issues, consider having the rear wheels spread further apart.

I would want to go at least half your rated 3 pt lift capacity in ballast weight.

That would cover you for most things.

Keep in mind the foot-lbs relationship. It's a mathematical product so you can go for heavy close in or light far out and get the same result.....meaning something like a 6' shredder would be all you would need; a 5' if you are not working max FEL loads.

I have a 5 shredder that came with it (which works good for compensating the weight) but due to hanging out excessively on my trailer when transporting, is why I’m wanting a ballast

I have a 3015R. For ballast I have a 55 gallon barrel 85% full of concrete with part of an old differential and assorted random chunks of steel for an estimated ~1300 pounds. So far I have picked up some rather large pieces of hickory trunk with it and was completely stable. As is a bucket FULL of moist dirt. I have some 24"ID by 8' concrete pipes to move, they are about 2200 lbs. I am interested to see how my ballast does with that, I am pretty sure the tractor will pick it up. These pipes are the first thing I have had the opportunity to move that I have a pretty exact idea on weight. My goal is to lift them high enough to get them on a trailer. I'll let you know how it goes.
