Before I move forward with buying a new 72” cultipacker for my B2650 HSDC, I need an answer to a question and you may be able to answer off the tops of your heads.

The roller will be used at my house property and mostly on a Bowl-shaped hillside around my pond (moving horizontally across the face of the hill), with a tight turnaround at the end of the pull.

My Issue is “what will work better to stabilize the tractor on the side of the hill and turn around tighter?”

Should I get the pull type hitch? Or the 3pt hitch configuration?

Stabilizing the tractor is more important than the turnaround.

Thanks!

Don't think you'll see much stability difference with either.

Convenience and usability, 3pt, hands down.

Good. I was leaning toward the 3pt, but wanted to confirm. Thanks!

As others say, concerning maneuverability and transport, 3pt is by far the favorite nowadays.

Our EA Xtreme Cultipacker is built very heavy to produce excellent results!

Thanks Travis. Been following your videos for a long time. Love your gear too.

Having or adding weight below the tractor’s center of gravity will stabilize tractor more. Having or adding weight above tractor’s center of gravity will make it easier to tip over.

Whether a 3pth or tow behind makes tractor more stable depends on how high you raise the 3pth at the end of the row.

We use a pull type for many of our 15+ food plots. It is a PITA.

Yep, I've got an 8' pull type that really sucks in tight areas or transporting.....

When I have implements that I cannot lift when cornering, I pull from the drawbar as opposed to the three point that puts all of the stress on the sway link on the outside of the turn. Just be careful of the tire grabbing the tow chain or bar.

Thanks all. I got a 3pt hitch style cultipacker. I fitted it up yesterday and did a test run. Should be perfect.

I am in the midst of liming and tilling it in a new area around a pond. Looks like I have until the 9th of July for any chance of a first rain. Will plant it on the 8th and hope for a good pickle shower.

I think the best thing would be a cultipacker with both a 3 point and pull hitches.

The 3 point aids in maneuverability, while a towed/drawbar hitch enables the cultipacker to follow the contours of the ground better and produces better seed to ground contact.

I plan to add a 2" receiver in the middle between the 3 point lower hitch points. A chunk of 2" steel .25" wall tube will work for a drawbar and a bracket on the the width of the packer will hold it when transporting it.

You made the right choice IMHO. Like ovrszd, we have an 8' pull unit and it is not a fun implement to use.

Post some pics of your project!!!

Not sure where Traverse City is? Really bad time of year to do seeding here in Missouri unless you have a daily irrigation system.

Will do. Traverse City Michigan is in the NW corner of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.

An area I've never ventured to. On my bucket list though. :)

This is a picture of Before we (wife and I) started. We had to get the swamp dug out before the buckbrush bloomed.

I went from 4 huge piles of swamp sludge from the long stick excavator (great black soil mixed with roots and stumps) to thousands of little piles from a wheel loader. I spread out all the piles of slop to dry out. IMG_1034.jpg

Then I started raking, de-rooting, spreading, and burning.

We started this in April 2020 (cutting down trees for access for the excavator) and now, here it is 1July, and it is seed ready. Just doing a Ph increase then buckwheat for a good soil-buildup.
