Just what I’ve read although I have known a couple of people with Ford diesels. It’s not a 6.0 or a 6.4, that’s good news. So far the 6.7 seems to be a winner, there are enough of them out there and getting some miles on them that I would think we would hear about reoccurring problems. That’s old enough it’s steel body. Is rust a problem in your area? If so check it for rust.

From I see for used diesels in my area, that looks to be a very fair price for the truck if it’s in good shape.

I’ve read about staying away from the 6.0 and 6.4.

I just don’t know about the reliability of the 6.7.

Thinking about buying this and getting a camper also.
Used to camp many moons ago when kids were little.

Tent camping then bought a popup.

Got 5 grandkids now and would like to get them outdoors and off their iPads.
Bout the only time they get to the woods is when there at our house.

We own 20 acres.

I’ve never owned a diesel and don’t want it to become a money pit with repairs.

My gut is telling me to get a 2500 6.0 or a f250 6.2 gas.

But this dually is really nice.

I just need something to pull 9-10k pound camper.

Would like your thoughts?

For what it's worth I just sold my 2016 6.7 that had 130,000 miles on it and had zero engine or trans issues

The only problems I had were a leaky radiator and bad wiring harness. Both were fixed under warranty due to Ford knowing of the defects. They told me it was a "No contact recall"

Ask your friend what kind of fuel mileage he gets?

Then find a friend with a gasser and ask what kind of fuel mileage they get?

Only using the info you offered, that truck would be $70K new? So it has depreciated $52K. In 8 years. That's $6,500 per year. That's $18 per day. Ouch.

You'll get much better financial return from it than he did.

A year ago I paid $13K for a 130K mile 2002 F250 7.3L crew cab Texas truck. I got a very nice truck for minimal money.

This deal beats mine by a LOT. I'm not a dually guy but this is an excellent buy.

Not sure if I’m a dually guy either.
Just trying to figure out most feasible option for pulling a camper.

Diesel or gas.

Do yourself a favor and get a 5th wheel camper and not the worst towing invention ever made a bumper pull camper. It’s not often I advocate for less towing capabilities but a 2500 or 3500srw is plenty capable of towing a 10k 5th wheel. A dually tows better no doubt but it’s not needed for occasional and pretty light at that towing.

Diesel or gas?

I pull a ~10k bumper pull 32' TT...Pulled it with 6.2 & 5.3 gas 1500's and have a 2019 2500 diesel now. No comparison towing with a diesel in my opinion. The 6.2 gasser wasn't bad, but doesn't compare to the diesel. My opinion anyway.

A diesel will have more power and get better mileage but a gas burner will get the job done. With the high cost of everything with a diesel you’re probably still cheaper with a gas. This combined load weighs 36,000 and the truck is gas. IMG_8754.JPG

I’ve got a older z71 that’s in excellent condition I’ll probably sell when I get a HD truck.

For the money this 6.7 f350 is probably my best bet.

Would just have to get used to it being a dually.

A 30 ft camper is probably what I’m going with.

A friend pulls a 29 ft with a 2500 6.0 gasser.
He says it pulls it good.

But I have to believe a diesel would pull better.

Can you offer him a fuel consumption comparison?

Pulling 10k--Gas was around 6-7 mpg, diesel--11-12. This is pulling in the "mountains" of PA.

Good stuff right there.

Operational costwise, I think the only way a gasser pays out is if buying new. Quite a cost difference.

In this case the dually is priced very low. It would bring that much even if it was a gasser. So he's getting the diesel free. Then factor in the mileage and it'll be a lot cheaper to run.

Thanks for that info.
I really haven’t given thought to cost of mpg.

Y’all keep giving me reasons to get a diesel.

Yeah there is a big price difference buying new, like 10k premium. I got mine during the 19 closeout of that model so they knocked off around 12k from MSRP. That made it a little more digestible.
Was looking for an SLT or Denali 6.0 gasser, couldn't find one anywhere--they were all diesels. I really don't have any regrets but yeah, the purchase price hurts pretty bad. I will say the towing power is incredible over gas though, I was shocked when I first hooked up the camper.

When I was raising hay I have a F 250 with manual trans and the V10 gas engine. The HP was about same as the diesel. It was a 2007 year pickup. I could pull the load the other three guys did with their all pickups were Fords either 250 or 350 but without a doubt the diesels pulled it easier. Also got better mileage. We are basically flat land. Mine and one other were single rear wheels and the other two were dually. Dually does give more foot print for soft ground than the single rear wheel and they will handle a badly loaded trailer better. All things considered would rather have the diesel.

One question don't see mentioned, is it 2 or 4 wheel drive? That diesel is heavy (the V10 is also but not as heavy), with no load on the bed traction with 2 wheel drive can be lacking. Or saying it this way...front end can end up with more weight than the rear tires have so traction is not good. On solid surface doubt would be any issue. Only time any of our four pickups had issue it was a dually but they really were in wet soft dirt.

Ken, I think FX4 is a 4x4 package.

Very good point though. I'd have little use for a diesel dually 2x4. Be stuck all the time.....

I normally don’t advocate for new modern diesels due to the complexity of their emissions systems and out-of-warranty repair costs. However, the 6.7 has a good reputation and since your friend is selling it for a great price I’d say it’s too good of a deal to pass up.
