Little birds are building nests every where they can find. I can't even work in the garage with the door open without them trying to build in my parts boxes.

Today I readied the lawn mower to mow and saw they had a full nest built in the air intake. I got it all out I thought but some fell down amongst the muffler. After about 5 minutes running it caught fire. It didn't hurt anything but glad I caught it before it did.

Some are behaving and taking advantage of the housing opportunities we provide.

For sure. I have a covered breezeway between the house and garage. Last year a tiny bird built a nest on the beam right over the door going into the garage and hatched out several young ones. Noticed yesterday she's back, using the same nest. Startles me when she zooms out of there as I'm opening the garage door!

I had a pair of swallows building a nest atop the casing of my main doorway last year. I went up with a ladder to ensure there were no eggs yet, then took it down. They are welcome to nest mpst places, but not up over the door I go through dozens of times every day.

I have a couple of Cedars I wanted to take down over the Winter. Didn't get to them. Now I'm not sure I can as they're quite popular, and populated.

I had to remove a squirrel nest on top of my Deere 4720 engine, there were two tiny squirrels in the nest that didn't make it. Squirrels are basically rats with bushy tails but I still didn't like my task.

Every year I have Phoebes nesting in the wood shed rafters. I let the wood air dry in the sun until August then put it in the shed. I like having the busy little things around.

Ive been battling one trying to build in my tractor shed. She usually builds on a shelf I placed for her under the house eave.

I have a couple of Mom's that insist on building on the ledges under the portico at my workshop. But the killer thing is, we have one dumb lady that has been building a nest ON the ceiling fan out on the front porch. I tore it out and cleaned up 3 times already, and now she's back again with eggs.

I suppose that if she's that persistent, I'll just let her stay this year. After all, she worked hard enough to claim that spot.

The Canada geese have an early start on that nesting thing though. Here's yesterday's family:

We have a phoebe that builds a nest on top of a webcam under my pumphouse eve, I'll have to look to see if she's back. I have a 12 gourd martin condo on an aluminum pole that I can raise up and down. This year I think we have five nesting pairs - it's taken a few years to get a colony established (at least I hope it's now established.) They will return in following years if nesting is successful. The wife and I always enjoy watching them fly all around and hearing their constant chatter when they are sitting on their 'porches.' They are usually gone about July, then I take the gourds down and clean them for the next year.

I get a kick out of the Killdeer that will walk down the road in front of you trying to lead you away from their nest.

I have to keep the doors down also. If I don't there will be a bird nest inside the Reznor hanging heater and mud daubers in a lot of corners of the garage.
