Finished up the 2x8 side boards, I went with 8' sections this time, the 16' are awkward for one person. Added one step to the rear, still need to install one on each side. I used treated pine on all of it. Ordered some mud flaps and bolt on stake pockets for the sides, not much to strap to on this one. Set the tire air to 95#, max is 128 for 6K.

Welp, PJ knows more than Nick, jeeze I hate that:) I filled the hydraulic tank to half way between low and full. Then on my first gravity down it over filled...grrr, messy Marvin, I hate that on a new vehicle:D So, apparently on gravity down, it don't completely equalize both sides of piston like power up/down does. So now I have to drain some and leave it low.

I already like the torsion axles, empty you can't hardly tell it is there. The truck gets way more commotion on a ripple or pot hole. Loaded about 50% better than the Lamar. I cross a steep little concrete crossing dip in Taylor that just bucks me out of the truck with my Lamar, about half with this one, handles the whoopty do's really well.

The brakes are stronger for some reason. Maybe a stronger magnet or the 10 gauge wire that PJ uses on all 14k and up trailers. I had to turn my boost down on the controller.

Delivered one load and brought one home for my stock pile, nice! The up is about the same speed, down is a little faster. Power seems good.

Sounds like the fluid in the cylinders returned to the tank and flooded you. But I understand why you did what you did.
Reminds me of getting ready to start a Harley for the first time after winter storage several years ago. Oil tank looked pretty low. So I added oil to the correct level. Apparently all the oil had sumped into the base. Very commonly known issue but was not known by me at the time. When the bike started the cap popped off of the oil tank and the 20W50 flowed! Live and learn!

So is gravity down an option? Or is it just something I don't know about? I don't think mine dose that.

I made sides for mine a few weeks ago. I used Douglass Fir and treated it with Linseed oil. Treated wood causes rust to any steel it touches. Just use the wrong fasteners to see how quickly it does it. Today I am going to cut the plate bracket off and move it. Its under the left brake light. The plate will hit the ground if not on level ground. And it's just too low that far back. I am going to weld it to the frame below the pivot. 20200328_192101.jpg20200328_192112.jpg

I used double 2x6 and made a space for easier handling when removing/replacing. If I had the metal side boards, they would be destroyed in no time.

Well I got the license plate relocated on my dump trailer. It won't hit now. If the front was just high enough to unhook it the plate would hit before. The light was easy since it is right near the clearance light 20200418_092538.jpg20200418_092632.jpg20200418_101135.jpg20200418_103017.jpg20200418_103109.jpg

Yes, most offer the option, it is a $200 upgrade. It really helps if you dump a lot in a day, in battery savings.

OK then mine doesn't have it. But I hooked up a 6 Gauge plug to the battery so it will charge faster. And as long as the truck is running it will use the truck batteries as well. There is a solenoid to keep the truck separate if it's not running. I have that set up on my truck already. It sends enough power to the RV to run the inverter while driving. That way I can run the fridge on 110 while on the road. And on my tilt bed I can run the winch with a smaller trailer battery. So I just added it to the dump trailer when I got it. I also have one on the tractor to charge trailer batteries when I am moving them. And the tractor lives in the RV shed. So in winter I can plug the RV cord into the tractor and the converter will keep it's battery charged. I changed the converter to one that has a maintance charger built in so it won't fry the batteries.

Getting busy so I put both trucks to work yesterday. I will need to check the Lamar, after 4 loads dumped, the batteries were weak. I have one or two bad ones or the charger is not working. Broke the license plate bracket off already on the PJ so I need to fix that, maybe like Rich said and just attach it to the tail gate. I think per Arizona it should have a light, but..... Deleted the door latch pins and made my own, the oem held the doors almost straight out from the bed sides. I get in tight locations with home deliveries so they had to go. Also installed 3 steps, mud flaps and two outside the bed tie downs.

I thought about the door as well. But the light is required by federal law. I don't know about AZ but WA cops will stop you for that. Here it's improperly displayed plate and it's an expensive ticket. A lot of people have cars that they don't want a front plate. Including me. I don't have one on my Corvette. Some guys put them in the front windshield. They get tickets. But no front plate is a much cheaper ticket so they don't bother unless you have one in the windshield. On another note I hauled 2 loads of gravel with mine yesterday. 2 yards per load. It's a 7k trailer so that's about 1000 pounds too much. It was loaded to the front so the truck would take most of that extra so as not to overload the trailer axles. With 1000 extra pounds forward I thought it would not dump. I was planning to scoop some out with the tractor. But it dumped it with no problem at all. I think having cables between the truck batteries and the trailer battery may have helped. With the truck running it would give 14 volts to the pump. But it did it easy so I think it would have anyway. I am pretty impressed with the PJ trailer. It pulled nice with that large for it load. The place I normally go is following the stupid shutdown so I had to go a lot farther to get it.

I picked up a new 12’ dump trailer and I plan to use it for hauling away concrete pieces. Is there a liner you guys use to protect the bed? Spray on? Stall mats?

I don't use anything, but the first load is hard to watch:) I do load from the rear until I get a layer down, then dump in from the side. I would think you could line the bed with something, but keep in mind, you want a slick floor for most material so it don't stick. What I have found to be the hardest on the bed are logs with pig ears. If one of them gets dropped it will dimple a 10 gauge floor or sides. So far so good on my PJ with 7 gauge bed.

Anything that would protect it will keep your load from sliding out. I was thinking bed liner. I mentioned it to the salesman. He said one customer did that. It cost him more to get it removed than it did to get it installed. And the powder coating was damaged.

My last load of large rocks, I'll layer down a 3-4" layer of chips, then scrap plywood, and on top of that some old pallets. No damage what so ever. Granted a mess to clean up and burn afterwards, but no damage to the trailer. 7ga deck w/ 12" cross members helps.
