Part, if not all of the reason for “just in time” is because our government wants to tax inventory. So business don’t want to stockpile inventory. Self inflicted problem.

Why store and maintain inventory when you can get next day is what I would hear.

We typically do not use many N95 masks here compared to surgical masks and face shields.

Last year I put together modest order for N95 to keep on hand... as what we had was indispensable during the fire season when the smoke turned daylight into dusk... regular masks did nothing... N95 were so much better.

My request to purchase was denied with the reason given it is a violation to provide N95 to an employee that has not been fit tested and at least annually retested... and that was the end of that.

All of what we do is regulation and liability driven... often comes with higher cost.

I just got rid of 36 exam stools... we have never had an issue and they are all USA made and problem free.

Problem is somewhere a Doc fell off a stool and the stool had 4 casters... the end result is we can only use 5 castor stools...

Typically this means going forward... but in medical it means get rid of all the old stuff and replace with new made in China.

Seems like a small issue but it is repeated over and over again.

Same for single use vials of medication... since the beginning of time nurses would draw from a single bottle for many meds... they use a new syringe/needle and draw the appropriate prescribed amount.

Somewhere a nurse did a second draw for a patient... so used the same needle on the same patient drawing from the same medication vial... which then contaminated the vial...

The solution is each patient gets their own vail of medication... no matter if they use 10% of 90% they get their own and the rest is "Wasted"... that is what it is called... this is great for pharmaceutical manufactures because the margin is greater in small packages and the more wasted means more sold... not to mention the waste poses it's own problems.

"The vast majority is single, most come from poor, disadvantaged communities, 45 percent suffer from mental illness, and half have substance abuse problems."

That is higher than I expected as well.

Here mostly men... the reason is there are few options for homeless men unless veteran...

Shelters are for women and those with children and that is the way it is in this county.

Just made our weekly visit to Whole Foods grocery. We never shop there normally but they have a 8-9am time reserved for older than 60 folks. Very well managed. They have a checker at the door looking at driver licenses to weed out the me-me-me generations. Inside it is quiet, no hoarders pushing full carts. Some bare spots on the shelves, but we got everything we needed. They had toilet paper, paper towels, and napkins. I guess most the hoarders have maxed out their credit cards.

They also have limits to control those who still want to hoard.

Well, while most of us are sheltering in place or just following the guidelines, we have these morons to contend with...Louisiana pastor defies coronavirus orders, holds church service for 1,8 people | Coronavirus | kctv5.com

It is about the $$$

My church had organized a 1200+ Men's Conference ($35/ticket) and two days before the date our Governor ordered no group events, they sent out an email quoting scripture and telling us they were going forward with the event. After the announcement from the Governor, they had no choice but to cancel/postpone it.

Then a few days later they sent another email about options they were considering. One option was to keep the money they had collected (over $40,000) as it "was not their fault" and they had already spent money on expenses. More scripture quotes....sickening. If they do that...keep the money...I will stop attending. I replied to their last email telling them to keep my "refund" if they needed it that badly. Hypocrites

We're already starting to see people show up here with NY & Mass plates, headed up to hole up at their camp. Thus the virus is spread...

Yep.................the euchre players are headed north ready to play and spread the virus.

Agree. Sad that money means more than the message. I think that might have been mentioned in the New Testament...:D

Sounds like some of of you are finding all the bad news irritating. You need to turn it off and do something else like work on your tractor.

I put the plows away for the summer and put the batteries in the garden tractors. Hauled brush to the pile on the trailer and mowed the wife's tall grass patch for the spring. Then I moved all the mowers to the other shed. It was nice.......it reminds me of better times when things were "normal".

To pull the topic away from theology - we had already paid in advance for a wedding reception for a family member to take place last Saturday. 5 hours sole use of a nice restaurant for 110 guests. DJ, cake to cut & serve, the floor cleared for dancing, the whole thing. A once in a lifetime expense.

Then our guests from overseas and across the country started cancelling. They didn't want to get on an airplane. Some of them elderly, vulnerable. Some from areas with social isolation already recommended. And our reception was almost within view of the Grand Princess cruise ship.

We inquired what would happen if we reduced the size, cancelled, or delayed the date. They replied with the part of the contract that says no refunds. So we decided to not tell them that guests were cancelling because we thought gatherings of over 100 people might soon be shut down in the SF Bay Area. Finally - a day before the site would have to do their grocery shopping etc - the Bay Area county governments issued the shelter-in-place order.

At that point the event site cancelled on us. The said a full refund will be mailed within a month. I hope they're still solvent by then and we don't end up as bankruptcy creditors. We promised (any) proceeds to the newlyweds for a more elaborate delayed honeymoon.

I predict things will restock for the next few days, then get hit hard again after 1 April (when EBT cards get reloaded).

I wish I had saved a link: A post elsewhere from a trucker, with a photo out his windshield as he comes down a snow-covered logging road in the woods.

He says he's rushing those logs to the paper mill that makes TP, as fast as he can. "Help is on the way!"

How many pounds of wood does it take to make 1 pound of TP?

It's been my experience that a number of people with mental illness try to self medicate. That leads to drug problems, which exasperate their mental issues. You'll see a large number show up in correction facilities. That environment, makes their mental issue worse.
