I like the charts. They show that we have more cases than all those countries with 1/10 as many people.

Right there is some truth in raw data for ya.

I became a grandparent this afternoon! My son and wife delivered a little girl in Bend Oregon. We are debating on whether to make the drive and visit and practice SDS (Safe Distance Strategies) as soon as they are discharged. No one other than my son allowed in the hospital. What a glorious day and a great feeling that rushed over me today! Between my wife and I this makes 4 granddaughters. Still waiting for a boy.
Congrats, it痴 a great feeling.

Give it another week or two ... and then tell us how you feel about it.

No it does not mean that we have more cases. It means we have more cases that have been confirmed. Note that cases cannot be confirmed unless people are tested. If a country does not test and has none confirmed yet are 100% infected, they would be lower on the chart. The chart is meaningless.

We have our first confirmed case of Covid-19 now in Taney county (Branson, Mo. area). Apparently a resident who travels a lot and brought it back with them. Nice huh. The Mayor is having a big meeting.

We had person come to Murray last weekend and attended a church with 150 people in that service. He tested positive two days later and two days later the person who he came to visit tested positive and works in the local hospital. Indirectly both my wife and me are potentially at risk so that did not make me very happy.

Now I see this exposure out of TN as a positive thing. The churches are now listening to the Governor and the hospital stopped their non monitored open door policy. Staff now have testing experience and ER now knows how to suit up.

Murray-Calloway County Hospital CEO Says Hospital Prepared For COVID-19 If Kept To A 'Slow Trickle' | WKMS

Thanks to the 1-2 punch now Murray and the region knows the virus is not an IF but When. Had it started with 10 positive people at the church and 10 positive hospital employees a week later we would have been in a world of hurt for sure and may still be but at least people at the top are thinking Defense.

The chart is meaningless.
No its not. The steepness of slope is what is significant.

When our confirmed cases are doubling at a rate similar to nations that have more testing completed then the chart helps forecast where we are going.

Its a forecasting tool, imprecise but very important.

Most of the infections are when you bring in enough vira, or viruses. There is numbers of viruses that need to be present in the body to be infected, so not just one. Most of the infections from this virus, SARS-Cov-2 has been from contact. For those of us that like phone apps, and interesting one is from Healthlynked called covid-19 tracker.

Kind of like just one solo sperm can not crack an egg shell?

I see the President is talking about backing off on social distancing so the economy can get going again. From what we see in other countries, social distancing is absolutely essential to controlling the virus. On the other hand, it is loony to think this can go on for more than a few weeks. My wife and I are ok, we are retired and can go on for months with weekly trips for fresh food. But families in the workforce need income. And nothing the Washington politicians can come up with ("stimulus") is going to help them make it through. Unless they start paying people directly the wages they no longer can earn. So as I see it, letting people go back to work is the most likely outcome after another few weeks at the most. This will doubtless spread the virus but I do not see a viable alternative.

You make good points. I think after 2 weeks heads will start to explode for many different reasons. In our local case we understand better the need to say out ball games and churches and not will strangers wander through the hospital.

Holy Cow... just plowed through 100+ posts. Some of you need to get a day job again!

I am by nature a loner, as is my wife. When I am on the road working I have to deal with people ad nauseam; being home with just her and the dogs is heaven... :cloud9:
I'm with you. My wife not so much but she doesn't travel like I do so her social life desires are stronger. No dog or other pets due to work travel but I will get another best friend when I retire. Probably will want a companion in the dog house. :D

More people density = more spread
Exactly. Seattle used to be the epicenter perhaps due to its proximity and ties to China. California as well but New York with its melting pot and so many more people living and working closer than any other US city has become the new epicenter. Seems to support safe distancing policies and practices.

Our stores are starting to put black tape X's or lines every 6' in the checkout line. Kinda nice, if you think about it.
Yeah, I got chewed out at the liquor store. I didn't notice the tape. I felt like I was at the airport in a TSA line.

I do the same, my most memorable response was someone who started cursing me for wasting his time when I asked (in broken english) for someone who spoke spanish.
A coworker asks the "extended warranty" people about getting insurance for his Model T "Nope, I just have a Model T, I dont get out much" and they usually hang up on him in short order...

I kind of enjoy some messing with the spam calls. When I'm in the mood it's a source of entertainment. The goal is to confuse them. Whatever pops into my head at the moment. Often times I pick up the phone and don't say anything. If the line gets disconnected, I guess it's a computer and took a call before me.

Sometimes I just start off with, "What ever you're selling I'll take a dozen. When can you get them here? What color will they be? Can you overnight them? The last shipment was busted when I open the box. They quickly hang up.

One of my favorites is to say. "Hello ....(city of choice) police dept. Homicide--sergeant Hall speaking. You have a homicide to report? Is this an emergency? Do I need to call 911 for you? Is someone bleeding? Did you shoot them? I just keep asking questions, speaking in a firm, fast tone. They just hang up.

I've messed with the folks going to fix my student loan so bad one guy called me a M-Fer and hung up!
You guys have too much patience or time on your hands. Even though my job is highly dependent on the phone, over the past few years I have become less likely to answer a phone unless I know who or I am expecting a call due some kind of abnormal transaction. If I do answer a spam, timeshare, etc. call I hang up without the least bit of hesitation.

Agreed. Statistics can be displayed to tell just about any story one wants. Not arguing there is or isn't an issue here but be careful in the comparisons made.
