Day 3 of sore throat. Still here!

As of 5 PM tomorrow Illinois is going into a shelter at home order, all businesses that are non essential most close until at least April 7. This shuts down my lawnmower repair business and leaves me without any revenue coming in to pay the company bills, or personal income to pay my household bills.

My cousin has a rental business and COVID is hitting at his busy time. If he and his workers all get sick at the same time, he will have to shut down. If people stop renting equipment, it will hurt his bottom line. If the virus curve was very steep, people would all be sick at the same time, then we all get back to business after a few weeks. With a steep curve, many people would die because many people need hospital beds and ventilators and they are limited. This will be very painful for so many people and there is no easy fix here.....stay healthy and please be kind. :wave:

Wife has had a bad cold for 3 weeks now. She sure doesn't want coronavirus on top of it.

I read this morning that NY's essential businesses also include any one which is owned and operated by a single individual is exempt from the shut down,
and that also liquor stores are an essential business, like to know what idiot is dreaming up these exceptions.

I keep hearing all the talk about lack of testing and lack of test kits and can't understand why that's being made into such a big issue. There's no specific treatment for Covid-19, so why does it matter if it's specifically diagnosed? If you fall ill (regardless of what it's from), a doctor or hospital is going to treat to ease whatever symptoms have presented themselves and are causing distress, whether it's high fever, respiratory distress, sore throat etc.

Other than knowing if it's a bacterial (so antibiotic treatments can start) or viral ailment, does it really matter? Am I missing something?

Also mapping the spread is important to plan deployment of resources. Around here (NE Ms.) there are not many cases yet. However they have deployed "drive thru" testing sites. The local news showed a couple yesterday with not one car driving thru or in line. Unlike some places shown in other areas with mile long lines.

Another local place on the news this a.m. was reporting an infant quarantined locally but the area was out of test kits so they did not know how widespread the enemy (covid 19) was.

A good General wants to know WHERE the enemy is so forces can be deployed effectively. We need a good General and good maps. We have neither.

It doesn't require the testing of every possible patient. It's getting played up that because there aren't enough test kits for every possible patient, it's somehow some epic failure to the outbreak response.

Will say this, has been an interesting time for the HVAC industry.

Lot of suppliers are going to a "no contact" sale to the contractor. Contractors are limiting the people allowed into their building as well.

I was doing a training class at the end of next month, sent off an e-mail today cancelling the class.

Yeah, what you're missing is that people with the virus should isolate themselves from those without. If you're "just ill", then you can still do the normal stuff with some precautions like you'd take with a cold. If you have COVID-19, then you REALLY should be fully quarantined so you don't give it to me.

Yep, and in my case, I know exactly who I might be in contact with (though I do practice and always have practiced social distancing, only person I'm 'huggy' with is my wife. If I contracted it (I have not yet), I'd pretty much know who I got it from and lets just say at this juncture, that person wouldn't be worth a plug nickle. Life is good here (minus the lack of a supply of TP), nothing has changed and I don't anticipate it to but then I don't live in an urban area, living in a remote area has it's advantages, especially today. Distinct advantages.

That is the first reasonable article I have read.
Every other publication has a blatant worse case bias in the writing.

They aren't looking for a representative sample. They are testing to see if you have the virus. If you do, they will (hopefully) try to treat it, while also ensuring that you do whatever it takes to keep from spreading the virus.

The inclusion of private businesses in developing solutions is creative and admirable. Data will calm nerves and allow us to utilize more evidence in our strategy. Once we have proper measurement implemented (the ability to test hundreds every day in a given metro), let’s add even more data into that funnel — reopen public life.

Saying there is panic and hysteria like a mantra does not make it so...again...using incomplete numbers is ludicrous and will continue to be...

There is a great NEED to test 100% of the people in certain circumstances. Here is one of those...a plane lands in Atlanta with possible infected people and there are limited test kits. Do you only test the sick ones and allow all the others to fly to other destinations? When do you get serious about controlling the spread of COVID?
