Yellow marks under hood??

My wife and I purchased a 2015 Armada in July last year. Had about 52k miles, overall good condition. Clean Carfax, 1 owner. These marks pictured under the hood are weird. Don’t body shops use these to line things up? Noticed some white ones under car when changing oil too. Not sure what they are for. Pics attached.

Just because the. CARFAX is clean, doesn't mean there hasn't been damage! Just means it was a cash repair job and not a claim job!

Inspector's confirmation marks at a final assembly inspection station at the factory? Sometimes you will see marks on fasteners like bolts, nuts, clamps.

New vehicles have them. It's a part of tracking and QC.

Without knowing exact factory markings or being able look in person I wouldn’t make a guess based on the pics. But can say that I have seen many cars with clean car faxes that were clearly wrecked and repaired. It happens a lot more than most know!

My brand new Taco Wagon has them. QC confirmation marks. When a nut/bolt is tightened. But after 52k miles - I think not. Confirmation of something considerably more recent - installed & nut/bolt tightened.

Typically means replacement parts.

It could be new parts that someone marked up trying to look like QC marks.

As already said, almost surely factory inspection marks. Find another one like it and compare. It’s amazing on how long they last and look that fresh. It could be something else but I doubt it.

On our industrial machines every single fastener of every sort has a paint marker line or dot of a specific color to signify it was torqued or checked to be assembled right. And I mean EVERY fastener.

Looks like the body shop did a great job. Rub them off and don't worry about it.

Whats more puzzling is none of the bolts have wrench marks in them, leading me to think it is a factory mark. No paint overspray, panels line up*

Maybe it was a QC test car , I never saw that many check marks on a car .....:2cents:

I am thinking more likely witness marks from one of the dealer oil changes. Some do a number of checks to include wipers, oil level, coolant, fan belt, air cleaner etc checks as part of oil change. Markers might be to show the customer or most likely the shop foreman what was checked by technician.

If the VID is ever recorded by an LEO or an insurance co...it will show up on a carfax...anytime the VID is entered into a database it can be found by carfax...In most states body shops are required to record/report the VID of any vehicle they repair...

I agree. I've saw them on much older vehicles. I'll check out my old junk and see if I can get a pic of some.
