Snow Blew Out Curtis Cab Windshield Yesterday

So, I just got to use my new heater in my Curtis Cab yesterday morning for the first time since Old Man Winter decided to drop some heavy snow on South-Central Michigan. Used it to plow my drive and my Mother in Laws driveway. Heated so well I had to turn blower down. Went to breakfast, came home and decided to help the neighbor with their drive and had one more to do. I came out of my garage with down pressure on my blade to scrape some of the heavy stuff off of my driveway, wasn't going that fast, didn't have my seatbelt on, hit the seam between two different pours of concrete, BX25D-1 stopped immediately but I didn't. Head hit the windshield and it exploded into the cab mostly. Luckily I only got three small cuts and I think they were all during clean up. Guess I'll be calling my Kubota dealer tomorrow to find out how much it's going to cost me for this little lesson. Heater doesn't work near as well without a windshield.

Surprised your head broke the glass. You can often hit that with a baseball bat and not break it. I once discarded a fouled up tempered shower door and couldn't break it with a steel hammer!

It's one reason, I kind of prefer laminated glass in an equipment cab.

Agreed. I rolled a stump into a skid steer window and it broke the glass but it bent the frame in the process.

I'm guessing he glass didn't break from the impact of you hitting it, but the stress created somewhere in it's mounting. Did you hit the wiper motor? That would do it.

Incidentally, that glass can really scratch up painted and other surfaces. I wouldn't move it, but try and suck it up with a shop vac.

It’s very possible that I hit the wiper motor. I’m about 6’ 1” so my head could have hit that. I had on a hat and a heavy 3M am/fm headset. It happened so fast. I only have slight soreness when I touch my head at impact point.

Is there a welt that matches the wiper motor? lol Should be crowd funding for stuff like this. I'd give you a couple of bucks! It should be a feature of this site.

Tomorrow the soreness will switch to your wallet.

The skid steer one I knocked out was like $350 OEM. And it was a new model at the time with no aftermarket support. I could get one now for $150.

It was a Kubota CTL.

That windshield was tempered glass. Sometimes you can hit tempered with a hammer and the hammer will just bounce back and the glass won't break, other times you can just tap the glass with a penny and it will explode. If you happened to hit it on or near the corner, that is the easiest place to pop it.

Curved tempered with holes in it.....my guess is 1500.00

Member "Dataway" posted on another thread that the Curtis replacement was $600...I'm hoping for around that...a guy can hope!

Break a sparkplug and you can flick just a tiny piece of it at any tempered glass and it's history.

If you can get away with flat cut it out of polycarbonate (Lexan). Do NOT use acrylic (Plexiglas).

I shattered my right window on Curtis Cab. Worst customer service ever. 3 months and $900 later I received replacement.

Whoa, sorry to hear that, and glad you're ok. I think those windshields go for about $650 from Curtis. Best of luck, and please keep us posted.
