Hi TBN'er

I gotta rant a bit. My area got about 6 inches of snow. I was ready with my shovel and heavy duty walk behind snow blower. The side walks and patios I can't do with the tractor.

Well, I guess I forgot............Kansas snow is wet. It sticks to the shovel and clogs up the snow blower. :(

Maybe somebody needs to invent a "Snow Pump". for Kansas: 19 deg F now , but will be 40--to 50 deg F in a few days-laughing::laughing:

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks...........that was a good trial run...........including the knee brace, insulated boots, long johns, Carhartts etc.

Here's some pics of the chore that goes with the wet snow. 002.JPG003.JPG

Cheers,
Mike

Being born 10 minutes from the Canadian border and now in living in NC, do what NC does, if it hits 40-50 deg F in a few days, let the weather melt it.

That said, if it snows in NC and it stays below 32 for a couple of days, all heck breaks loose LOL

Mike- Do not forget the anti-inflammatory meds and analgesic topical lotions. ;)

Powder snow around here is a rarity; as are fabric shelters and hoop greenhouses.

Good luck.

I kinda liked it. Gave me a chance to get the tractor out. Plowed mine and the neighbors 1000' driveways and had a blast. The bad part is I had to work out in it all day today installing fiber. Oh well, not much wind so it wasn't bad.

Managing snow starts getting old come late March/early April.

I have not yet started dreaming about shoveling it.

Yeah, sitting in the Kubota seat went a lot better with the back blade/FEL on the neighbors concrete driveway. ... and with no wind it was a piece of cake. On my wet gravel driveway it too sucks. In fact, it takes longer to disrobe myself and put the gear/tractor away.:)

We got two inches a couple days ago. Not even enough to worry about. Wet snow sucks no matter where it is. I just pack it down on the driveway with the Taco Wagon. Sooner or later we may get a REAL snowfall.

We got 23 inches in just over 24 hours a week or so ago. Dont feel so bad!

Wet snow and a snowblower?

Either make sure blower is really slick and be really good at feeding just the right Goldilock amount of snow in so it's more of a "pump" than a blower;
or like others suggest, often the best thing to do is nothing.

In my experience, when snow is wet and dense it's usually because it near the freeze/melting point.
Sometimes I follow the weather advice of Mark Twain: 的f you don't like the weather in New England now, just wait a few minutes.
Either wait a few hours/day until it gets colder and crystalizes then snow blow; or wait till it gets warmer and melts.

...or in my case it melts from snow in the day then re-freezes into a solid sheet of ice at night that stays until April. Or the family suddenly finds 27 excuses to drive over it repeatedly packing it into ice. Grrrr!

We had rain mixed with ice pellets. Cold this morning at 24. Expected sunny and a high of 40 today. Driveway is pretty clear, I suspect some of it sublimed. No snow shoveling for us down here in "pineapple land" of Branson Mo. Just 30 miles north at Springfield, Mo. it was a lot worse. I-44 was some sort of skating rink I guess. It should all melt loose today though.

Yeah, not bad up here in Arcticville either. Seems the middle area got it the worst. I pushed off my driveway and parking area in anticipation of our Annual Shop Christmas Party Saturday night. Had a strong 2" and no ice.

Let's go to Branson where James lives. His snow is "sublime".:D No wonder his pineapples are so tasty.002.JPG001.JPG

Thought I'd edit ......now we have fog freezing on everything. It is kinda pretty from the warmth of the house. Still not "sublime" though.:)

How pretty!... kinda glad you are enjoying the beautiful snow though.. :)

Sublimation is where frozen water turns directly to a gas and disappears without going thru the liquid phase. It happens here occasionally. We get small amounts of frozen precip and even though the temperature does not raise above 32 F it sublimes and goes into a gaseous state from sunlight and low humidity moving air.

I don't think our ice pellets we got were very pretty though...

Several years ago I was at Ft McCoy Wisconsin in February. It was in the high 20s, low 30s below zero every night. One morning there was ice fog. I thought I'd saw ice fog before, but I had not...…. It was eerie. Visibility about 70ft with headlights on. At every street light the light was reflected straight up. Looked like spot lights shining upward rather than street lights shining downward. I tried to take some pics but my phone couldn't capture it.

They can have that!!!! :cold:

Overnight we got three inches. Tomorrow's weather - 37F & rain. Saturdays weather - 47F & rain. We might have a brown Christmas.

I had to read that twice. With your dash marks at first glance it appears you are saying -37F and rain......
