Mice

My niece placed Irish Spring bars all over my dad’s house. When my wife and I tore it down some of those bars were gnawed to half size. Found one dead mouse in electrical box that shorted and electrocuted - very effective. Moth balls have worked well in my Mini-ex the past 6 years. Squirrels had eaten 11 circuits in a week between using it and it not starting. Spliced new wire across the missing spaces, packed armrests and fuse box with moth balls and no more problem. Neighbor had a horse euthanized, hauled it into his dead cow disposal area. Vet said it wouldn’t cause a problem. Two days later he took a dead cow out and found 3 dead protected raptors plus 2 dying so he dug a trench large enough to bury the horse carcass. Since then I’ve been Leary of poison, especially since we have so many hawks and eagles around, but having hay and grain around can be such a lure I found I need to use some poison. My combine and largest tractor have a rodent repellent made with balsam oil in the cab and engine compartment. Had to use that tractor Saturday - very powerful odor but for once no mice scrambling from the engine compartment when I started it. Going to get some more but not useful in open areas like a building.

Good evening, I live off grid and have every rodent possible, I have been using FRESH CAB POUCHES in my tractor , truck , 5th wheel and have had very good luck with it, no damage on anything last 2 years get it on AMAZON .Dan

Over the years I've tried every "hocus-pocus" solution to ridding my RV, boat, garage, and equipment of destructive nesting mice. Soap, minted mothballs, dryer sheets, you name it, they all failed miserably. I couldn't use poisons because of our cats and our wildlife including owls and hawks who like to dine on the little destructors. I've been using a product with great results. It kills the mouse by dehydration and does not cause harm to the rodent's preditors. The product is widely available at home stores, etc. Its is called RatX and MouseX, it will set you back 15 to 20 bucks for a bag.

The best defense is offense so we have a cat squad patrolling the perimeter. Females are usually more effective than toms but the only female out there was so pretty we promoted her to house duty.

How many cats you have outside? I'm looking to get another male to make a total of 3 cats.
My female cat either was eaten by another predator or wandered off and taken by someone.
I like female cats but don't want to spend $60 to have them fixed.

or shot because they killed someone's birds!..

 No one keeps birds and I live on 45 acres with a neighbor one side with cows and a farm to market road separating me from another one.

Any birds owned by someone here would be inside a residence. Never heard of somebody owning a bird that a barn cat could catch.

chickens are one type of bird that are usually kept outside. common on farms.. ducks and a few other types of birds are usually kept outside too..

True. I wasn't thinking of chickens and ducks. There is some white trash down the road that keeps a pig, ducks and a few chickens on about 1/4 acre.

Oh well, cats are free so if I lose one I replace it on the go.

We call them fowl.

Cats kill well over one billion (!) birds annually in the US. If you don't care... you don't care - and I get their anti-rodent utility.

When we moved here 30+ years ago there were lots of quail. Entertaining as **** watching them march single-file along the porch rail, or herding 20 fluff-balls through the field. Then neighbors arrived with six cats. Haven't seen or heard a quail in 20 years :(
