I recently replaced a power steering hose. Started the tractor to check for leaks, let it run for a minute or two and then shut her down. Went to start her a week later and it spins over nicely, but no catching at all. Almost seemed like the compression release was open. I confirmed the comp release is working correctly. Just in case I bled at the filter and at the pump. That didnt help. I am not getting black smoke from the exhaust when trying to start. Could my injector pump just die?

Is the next step to crack each fule line at the injector to see if its pumping?

Appreciate any guidance

Cracking at injector should confirm your fuel flow. Throttle wide open?

Yes wide open. My concern is that it's almost spinning faster than normal when cranking. It sounds slight different with compression release on versus off.

I should also check the fuel shut off cable....maybe that isn't working.

But if it is...next step will be cracking those lines

Only reason it would spin faster is loss of compression. That slight difference when compression release is on or off sure sounds suspicious. You may have to pull the rocker arm cover to check valve clearance and see if everything looks ok in there.

As i have been told before and as i have told others, "always start with the simple things first". Problem is solved, my fuel shutoff cable just got hung up. Once released she started right up!

I'm glad it was simple, too.
But while we are being simple, I'd sure do another check on that compression release. What you are saying about "a slight difference" doesn't sound right.
The compression release should make a HUGE difference in the way an engine sounds when cranking. You can't miss it. If yours doesn't, it's time to look at why.

That happened to me too. I had just cranked my engine and it wouldn't fire a few minutes later. My knob was pushed in but the cable sheath went with it. I have since worked some oil into the cable to stop it from happening again.
