Maybe you could get them to mow the lawn when they bring it back. ;)

Its always been very difficult to get into 4wd i just attributed that to new gears and tightness

Searcy- what's the status of the 4wd engagement now? Anything different since the rebuild?

it seems to be better for whatever reason, maybe the shock of things getting jostled around as they didnt do anything to the trannie - unless with the pto being out of alignment/bad/was putting pressure on the shaft that comes out of the trannie which could cause pressure on the gears that engage the 4wd - hard for me to say since i dont know whats on the end of the shaft that goes into the trannie BUT it did seem better going into gear it was stiff coming out but i moved a lil to get teeth/mesh pressure off a couple times and it seemed better - its summer now so maybe some was oil stiffness vs cold winter oils - i called deere this morning they are coming after it and going to get it taken care of - it looks like an easy repair under there, some sort of gear drive assembly w/motor for lift so a few bolts/plug and such it should be ok.

I did run it down the road to try it out as well in H on the hydro and it seemed to be fine as well

Well nutz............that didnt last long, I went to back the deere/mower out of the shop today to move it out of the way and heard a klunk so stopped - here was a brass bushing and spacer sitting on the concrete floor i noticed the deck was ALL the way down hmmmmm - so l look under the tractor and the lift motor/gear assembly was busted I looked at the outside of the case of the lift motor and it appears it might have been whacked by the drive shaft when it came apart - i would guess it was fractured/cracked it looks like cast aluminum casing around the lift unit so back to the shop it will go - bummer
They should have cought that when they were working on it...

I hate it when techs have tunnel vision when they are working on something!

i kind of look at it this way, how many times have i tried to fix something and thought it was fixed only to find soon there after or maybe even not to soon i have the same issue again or its intermittent or something else gets stressed and then it goes - i am not surprised that it had another issue and wont be totally surprised if something else happens again related - you cant just tear an entire transmission apart just to look to see if something is a bit off especially if its not acting up or doing anything odd at the time of testing - at my age i have see a lot of peculiar things over the years, nothing is perfect and nothing is w/out failure - if you have that kind of expectation with anything mechanical/electrical/complicated you will be frustrated a good part of your life ;-) the most humbling machines i have ever been around are combines..........if you can tolerate/live with those you will be a lot more excited about something running a full day/week w/out any issues

i have nothing but great things to say regarding my dealer - from the sales rep, svc mgr, svc admin who takes my calls, parts guys and the mechanics there - they have all been good to deal with as far as i am concerned, they did their jobs and were fair on my 2210 before I got this 2038R.

There does seem to be a few Trolls on this site that have nothing good to say about anyone or any thing. A few just like to argue. Still the best Tractor Forum out there.

There's one that wants to know your location too

I can understand that sometimes knowing a posters location could be helpful in diagnostics. Say, I grenade my turbo and by someone knowing I'm in Alaska they could deduce that the oil might have been to thick due to the cold and starved the turbo for oil. It is the mean-spirited dillweeds that irritate my sensibilities. I just try to ignore their pettiness.

This is why it is so important to find a good dealer close by regardless of brand. Hopefully JD will give you a loaner while you are waiting for repair work to be complete.

If I was tractor shopping in the OP's area that dealer would be the first place that I stopped.

I can't see that the dealer did anything beyond normal expectations. They actually didn't inspect the tractor fully or they would have caught the second failure. Should be common practice to look this tractor over very carefully and completely. It had a CATASTROPHIC failure.

I appreciate the fact that the Dealer got right on it both times. He probably wishes his guys would have checked more thoroughly too.
