Harbor Freight Tools that don't suck

That's the way it goes for me also. Work up a sweat getting the genny out, running and plugged in so the sump pump can work, and then the power comes back on.

It is especially fun when this happens after dark.

I bought a riding mower/atv jack from them recently for $89 and have been very pleased with it. Monday I bought a Bauer electric drain auger for $99 with coupon. It works really well, looks similar to a bull pup automatic rifle, has a lever for forward cable feed and retraction also cable locking chuck.Makes quick work of snaking lavatory and kitchen drains, cable length is 23ft. I watched several demos and reviews on YouTube before buying.

But on the bright side, you don't need to pull it out and exercise it again for another three months.

The son used the Lyxx chain saw today to get down a young tree blocking the security light for a few years one limb at a time. Now I can to better get around at night. It was still showing 4 bars after some usage. I realized how little the saw ran on tasks like that. It is a fast turning chainsaw too. He called it a keeper.

Good to know. Been thinking of getting a battery saw for those small jobs when it takes longer to fire up a gas saw than to do the cuts. I have the Lynx pole saw, and it's great.

No sooner posted that than it died on me. Went out to check, restarted and it ran fine for a few minutes then died again. Then I noticed the vent lever on the gas cap that has to be open to prevent the vacuum from making it think it was out of gas. Opened that, restarted, ran a few minutes, then utility power kicked back in.

Gotta love those "undocumented features".

Oh man. I had a terrible time with HF's previous version 6.5hp shredder until I finally figured out the low oil shutoff was too sensitive. A few minutes running made enough vibration to settle into soft ground a tiny amount and trigger a shutdown, before the machine was visibly out of level. I hope the current version shredder is more reasonable.

I bought several tools from HF and they have been great! Two of the most expensive are the p;late compacter-absolutely love this and a MIG flux\gas welder. The cheapest tools I love to like the latex gloves and tie strips.

I like the two thickest grades of Titanium Nitrile gloves.

You do know that if you didn't drag it out the power would go out and stay out just after the torrential downpour started.
On the other hand, if you do drag it out you're assured no rain, no winds and the power stays on.

Got the 40v Lynxx Chainsaw a couple months ago.
So far I love it for the little one or two cut jobs.
Really wanted to know just how long a full charge would last so....

This was laying in the back on the power line.

Went at it with a fully charged battery and ended up here.

Now.. that wasn't the full pile but, almost.

I got one too, and was curious as well... cut down a couple ~40' fir trees (about 30 years old after counting the rings), bucked up the first one yesterday and it took just over a full charge to cut it into rounds. But since I have the pole saw and blower as well and ended up with a spare battery with one of the open box purchases I have 4 batteries...

It's been about a year since I had my gas saws out, this is definitely easier for quick jobs, will probably pull out the gas saw for the rest of the work though.

I ran my Lynx pole saw last weekend for the first time this season. It's been sitting in my unheated shop all through the winter untouched. When I pulled it out to start using it, the battery showed 4 bars on it, after sitting all winter with the battery hooked to the saw. Ran it off and on all weekend, limbing high branches, and when I put it away Sunday it still showed 3 bars.

Wow.

I bought a second battery and charger when I bought the pole saw, but I don't think I've killed the battery on a project more than once.

Still impressed with mine.

This is a good update on longevity of a battery charge. I've noticed the same with the batteries stored in my heated shop.

As I've posted before, I've had all five of the Lynx tools for about two years. Started with the pole saw, which still cuts nicely through limbs as large as 6". It's almost time to sharpen the chain, and same with the 14" chain saw, both for the first time! Even though the Oregon chains are micro-chisel for safety and narrow gauge to reduce cutting resistance, I'm pretty impressed with them.

Instead of buying the spare battery, which never goes on sale, what I recommend to folks is to wait for a Lynxx sale coupon, then buy a second tool. With five batteries and chargers, you could literally run all day if necessary.

I gotta say that the pole and 14" chain saws, blower and hedge trimmer are all quite impressive. The string trimmer, not so much. It is the least robust of the five tools. It only takes a thin gauge of cutting string, for obvious reasons (.065", available in bulk at HD, Lowes, etc.) and the "auto-feed" feature doesn't really feed, at least for me. It's not bump-and-go, rather is supposedly actuated by centripetal force. But it's easy to stop every few minutes, press a release button on the spool and pull out more string. The thing is really handy for quick, light trimming when you just don't want to fool with fuel mix and the gas trimmer. I grudgingly admit it's grown on me. :)

I have all 5 Lynxx tools also. The string trimmer could have a better string head. Another problem I have had is battery charging in cold weather. I need to take charger into a area that above 40°F to get charger to charge battery. Get a red blinking light when in cold area. Otherwise very happy with the Lynxx tools.

Ron, I think the charger will give you red blinking light if battery is hot from use. Just leave them on the charger and charger will start automatically after battery cools a bit.

I have the Lynxx 40volt blower, the 40volt pole saw, and the 40volt chain saw.

My original chain saw leaked oil all over the place. I took it back for an exchange, with receipt, and the nice lady at the register told me to just keep my original battery and charger. So, I've got got 3 tools and 4 batteries and 4 chargers.

The HF Store I go to, closest to the ranch, is still 70 miles each way. They have a great crew that are very accommodating. If I’m needing to use more than one 20% coupon, they just ring up multiple transactions because they know I can’t get there often.

The HF store, I used to go to, before this one opened, was operated by Yev Kassem and his siblings.

NO DISCOUNT FOR YOU!!

The only one I have so far is the pole saw. I admit I kind of regret spending the money on the 2nd battery. It has not really been needed. I may go back for another Lynx tool though, we'll see.

I've never tried to charge mine in "cold" weather, but I have charged it at +40 F. It will sit blinking on the charger like gustafson says, doing a battery test or some such thing for a while before it starts charging. I was also surprised how loud the charger is when charging (can actually hear it).

But when it's COLD here, none of my landscape tools gets used. "Cold" for us is -40F, and I don't have an update on running one at that temperature.
