Rounded off drain plug

For some reason ever since this post started over a year ago when I see it I think of the sloth. It takes them a month to digest a single leaf. They climb down out of their tree once a WEEK to poop. When they finally poop they say the expression on their face is pure bliss, since in that one event they lose a third of their entire body weight.
So it will be here...that fateful day when that plug FINALLY comes out, ever sooooo s-l-o-w-l-y turned until at last...a crowd of bystanders cheering, balloons being released, confetti and streamers floating down.
Traffic will be backed up for miles. Every major TV, Radio, newspaper and magazine reporter will be there, as well as all the ambulances and medical staff attending to those who have fainted.
Last but not least, even now, the Zambelli Fireworks Company is on standby, several tractor trailer loads of supplies packed to the hilt just for this momentous occasion.

It'll be done, in time.

Some of us can boast that our hair is more gray, or silver in my case. Maybe some of us have even put this on our ‘bucket’ list. No pressure though.

It痴 so long ago I do not remember what the plug drains......

It could change everything, we may need to start the suggestions for Kando over. It is no wonder the plug is still in. :confused3:

I haven't been here in a while. Did he use a mag drill and rota broach to make a new drain hole yet? I figured he could use a rubber boat plug as a stopper, the kind with a wing nut in the middle.

For those who are curious, I've had good luck with these. Read somewhere they're made by the same company who also makes them for some of the tool truck brands. Description says good for tight spaces, which is false. You need a much larger socket than whatever you are trying to remove..

It's raining.

Bruce

It's snowing here, or at least it was when I came in.

Also dark, just as it seems to be every night at this time.

So many posts now; I have lost track whether this method was ever explored:

1. Grind a flat spot on the face of the bunged up plug.
2. Find short piece of tube that just fits over the bunged up plug.
3. Get a transfer punch, same size as tube interior, and hit with a hammer to have a new center.
4. Drill out a convenient size hole to allow fluid to drain and let drain overnight into a pan.
5. Continue to drill out the bunged up plug till only a shell remains in the threads, caution, do not get into the female threads.
6. Using a small cape chisel and hammer and peck out the residual shell.
7. Using proper size tap and clean up the threads.
8. Now using one of the many ideas , in this thread (your choice), on replacement plugs and install it.
8. Fill the reservoir with the proper fluid.

This process has never failed me in 80+ years; on all types of machinery.

You are now back in business. DO NOT REPEAT the scenario that started this Thread. We will not have the patience exhibited by all your TBN friends and their long suffering again.

Has any thought been given to turning the tractor upside-down and draining the oil out the fillhole ???
I mean every other option you can think off has been suggested.:cool2:

What about filling the transmission with water to float the oil out and then boiling off the water. I don’t recall reading that suggestion.
