It looks like you had a nice day for it, though.

Rain and 50's predicted for the next week. That'll end ice fishing here real quick. My friend and I were walking off the lake Thursday night after another great afternoon of fishing, I looked back and saw the sunset and we stopped and watched it for a while. The redwing blackbirds had stopped calling, thousands of sand hill cranes were coming in for the night, the owls started hooting.... doesn't get much better than that. It's been a good last few weeks for fishing. Time to look back on things and count your blessings, put the gear away for next winter, and plan for spring.

Nice description. Those moments are such a blessing.

I read the title, looked at the pic, knew exactly what you meant. These moments are good for the Soul.

I guess I don't understand?:confused3:

I guess those from pineapple land wouldn't understand.:) May the next years fishing be just as good.

Cheers,

Your right, I have no first hand experience with ice fishing. Ponds and lakes are not safe to walk on here even if there was ice on them. Which a lot of times there isn't.

I'm getting rain and warm afternoons now. The ice on my little lake is starting to look "rotten". Another month and the lake should be completely ice free.

We watched a big group of Sandhills kettling yesterday. I went inside to get my wife, she'd never seen it before. They kettled for 5 minutes or so until they found the current they wanted, then dropped into the V formation and headed your way. That coupled with the Mesquite trees starting to bud tells us Spring us on the way down here.

Last year last ice was about 3rd week of February. So I got an extra two weeks this year. Would have been out more but my F.I.L. was in hospital for 2 weeks back in Feb with pneumonia as soon as the ice got hard, so I spent mornings before work making sure he was eating breakfast and evenings visiting. Used to do a lot of ice fishing with him, but his time is winding down slowly. He hasn't been fishing for about 8-9 years. So I always have a good thought about him when I go.

More about that picture...

I told my kids it was a metaphor for old men... ;)

Have you heard Toby Keith's song "Don't Let The Old Man In"? Google it. Great song.

Beautiful picture, thanks for sharing. Is that northern Indiana or Alaska? Only way to "ice" fish now in southern Indiana is to be Jesus (walk on water). :)

SW lower Michigan.

I was talking to a priest a few months ago and the subject of ice fishing came up. He'd never been. I mentioned something about that other fella who liked walking on water... went right over his head for about 10 seconds. Then he got it.
