Good morning!!!!

Drinking first cup of coffee. 21° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 29° with a slight chance of sun in afternoon. Never made it to shop again yesterday. Need to change house water filters. Also need to put some type of latch on deer feeder cap. It is laying on ground every morning. Then maybe get at shop projects.

Shouldn't we working on a Tractor Orientated Bachelor Party for Randy? :drink: We do have time to get this done since no date has been set yet.

Drew, glad presentation went well.

Riptides, hope horse is feeling better.

Prayers for all.

Good Morning All.

45 dropping today to 38, but the snow has been removed from the forecast.

Eric, I'm surprised you posted today...thought you'd be standing by the kissing gate waiting for the ladies to pass through :).

...and Mr. Toppop got himself a wife without even using a kissing gate. Congrats Randy and Ellen!

Rip, sorry about your horse...and we have had standing water in the low areas all fall and winter. Like Rick, I'm restricted from taking the tractor to certain areas since I don't like repairing ruts. I have enough herringbone tracks around the drier areas, but they seem to smooth back out after it dries out.

My wife and I went downtown, walked around on such a nice warm day, and took a guided tour of the state capitol yesterday...the guide was full of little facts and stories to make it very interesting...then a late lunch at a neat oyster bar/seafood restaurant.

Ron your deer are hungry
Yes they are. But the state DNR has put out regulations 1/31/2019 that says no feeding or baiting of deer is allowed in lower Michigan. I see all kinds of deer problems with this type of regulation. I put little over 1 gallon of feed for the Cranes and Squirrels everyday. The deer clean up what is left every night. The deer will be eating trees and anything else that has nourishment in it before long. If they have not already started.

25F partly clear sky slight wind low 30's for high.

Plans for today... Home Depot for gutter clamps, feed store for critter food, oil change for pickup, make quick deer feeder and place.
Guess I better get at it for the critters want there breakfast... now.

Enjoy the day all.

41 outside this AM. Heading to around 45, no rain today. This was after our weather people pulled back from their hyper storm forecasts all week long. Now they are saying mid-week doom and gloom.

Horse is still under the weather. Trying to push the fluids. Wet hay, wet grain, wet weather...LOL.

Cleanup work today on the farm. Still waiting on HD for the metal replacement panels for the roof. Wife ordered 27 windows for her barn yesterday. That should be a fun project.

Have a great day all. Be safe.

   / Good morning!!!! #89,268
Any chance they have a metal shop, and a paint shop, too?

That's what I like about this place the answer is never "no".
The answer is not yet, if you are interested in starting a metal shop with paint booth there are probably dozens ready to join you and help.
I keep hearing interest in a metal shop but it hasn't taken off yet.

To start the gardens/Horticulture club, the community asked the developer for land for the gardens and the developer asked the community for 100 club members and $10K to start the charted club. Within two weeks that goal was met and volunteers changed the donated 3 acres to 300+ raised beds and they have been adding buildings and equipment every year. Membership stays steady at about 500 club members and there is always a waiting list for a raised bed.

Good morning! 40 ˚F, north wind, what a change from the 89 ˚F weather yesterday.

Need to run by the wood shop and inquire about the next orientation. The web site says they are held twice a month and:

"The Woodworkers Club maintains a fully equipped woodshop with jointers, planers, table, band and miter saws, routers, shapers, sanders, hand tools, various jigs and clamps."

Do you ever feel like doom and gloom weather is always one week away. Weather forecasting right now is execeptually bad and has been all winter. Severe cold mammoth snows for east coast blah blah blah. I think I’ll just take it as it comes

Good Morning!!!! 41F @ 5:30AM. Cloudy with showers. High 46F. Winds SE at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

Forecasting has been somewhat hit'n'miss out here as well, Buppies. Earlier in the week, they were predicting sunshine for Sunday, but now we have showers both days and sunshine Monday and Tuesday with more rain by Wednesday. Good thing I went easy on the firewood pallet in the garage, or I'd be out in the rain this weekend trying to get a new one inside without getting it wet!:confused2:

Life has a way of evening things out, Randy, and I'm glad you and Ellen didn't have to wait too long. Congratulations!

Yesterday's meeting with both "project leads" got us all on the same page, fortunately. Not sure where the miscommunication came from, but both were positive about my comments, one even going so far as to describe them as "refreshing". The proposals will be re-drafted based on the information exchanged, and that will be the proof of the pudding. I think their intent is good, but perhaps they're not used to dealing with someone as detail oriented, with as much familiarity with the technology, as me. I should probably follow up with an email to both of them with my notes so that we're all clear on what was agreed to, just to keep things "refreshing".

I found water softener salt two bucks a bag cheaper at Tractor Supply yesterday than I'd been getting it at from Home Depot. Maybe it's because TS stores it outside, in the rain, and they wanna get rid of it before too many leakers appear? The contents of the bags I got appeared to be dry, but the plastic bag itself was heavily textured by the coarse granules of salt inside, leading me to think pinholes were not far in their future.

When I got back home, the van parts had been delivered by the mail man, but I needed lunch and a nap before I could motivate myself to install them. I started the van before I started to make sure the problem was still there, and sure enough the low coolant level LED continued to flash long after it should have gone out. The easy thing to do was to replace the related relay, so I did that first, and the LED went out when it should have. Just to make sure, I put the old relay back in, and again the LED went out when it should. The problem had been somewhat intermittent before, so that left the temperature gauge itself as the remaining suspect. That was the other part I ordered, so I pulled the instrument cluster and took it inside for the swap. And while I was in there, I replaced the LCD display for the clock, which had also been damaged over the years. Got it all hooked up again, and with the old relay, the LED was stuck flashing again. OK, so maybe the both the gauge and relay were bad, though the misbehaving relay was a new replacement, though not a VW part. Put the just received relay in and the problem went away, but I'm not confident I've seen the last of it. But the only thing left is the wiring between the various components, and Lord help me if I have to try sorting that out in the rat's nest under the dash!

Not sure what I'll be up to this weekend, other than it will involve stoking the wood stove and trying to stay dry. Hope everyone enjoys their days off!

   / Good morning!!!! #89,271
It was 15° for the low this morning. Yesterday was mostly sunny till the afternoon. Then a cold front came through and dropped about 10 inches of snow overnight. Today is going to be a mix of clouds with a high in the mid 20's and windy.

I went for a ride in the subdivision yesterday and run into a couple of the neighbors cleaning the cut down to the river. Both of them are talking about selling their houses this spring. They both live on the other side of the river. There is only one other family that is on that side of the river full time in the winter. Most of the subdivision is only accessible by snowmobile this time of year. We get a few neighbors that come up on weekends and get to their places that way.

I need to move the snow if the wind isn't blowing to bad this morning.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
CWB

Good morning to all! Low of 34, breezy at 05:30, going up to near 50. Sharp decline in the temps tomorrow, with 'doom and gloom' forcasted for Monday. We'll see, this weeks devastating storm didn't happen.

Today will entail a dump run and some quick errands. Finally got through the 'closet makeover' started on Thursday. We ended shredding 8 garbage bags worth of old paperwork. I didn't realize there was 23 years of tax records and receipts in there! Re-homed a bunch of business/ office stuff that we'll never use.

Drew, I hope you're able to dodge some of the rain forecasted for you!

Congrats again to Randy and Ellen, wonderful news.

Jay, ....Ortho outcome?....are you mobile?....

Rip, hope the horse continues to get better. Make sure you take pics when the windows are going in....sounds like a BIG project!

Claye, thanks for keeping that snow up there!

Everyone who is healing, continue to do so without complications, prayers sent this morning.

Many of us here have reached the age where long time friends and acquaintances are winding off their mortal coils. Late in the day yesterday I learned that two of mine had made their last rides. One fellow and I go back twenty years or so, back when we rode mountain bikes in the hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. Back then, Mike and Louis and I would be out every weekend, and it was clear Mike was holding back to let Louis and I keep up. I had no idea, but he was the middle one of us age wise, seven years older than me, a dozen years younger than Louis. As the youngest, I should have been stronger, but never was, so what a surprise that Mike would be the first of the three to reach is final rest. The other friend I only knew through Facebook, but we shared a common love of motorcycling, BBQ, good beer, and humor. He was also older than me, but not that much, his death serving as yet another reminder that our time on this Earth is finite, and if there's things you want to do, you better get after them before it's too late.:weepy:

Sorry to hear about your friends, RNG. I have known so many people over the years (most way older than me at the time) that kept working and working, always "Talking" about what they wanted to do when they retired. Most of them only had a couple of years and never did what they envisioned.

About 5 years ago, I died, twice... I was sent back.. The reason ?? I don't know. It did give me a MUCH different perspective on life and where I (we) where going. We devised a plan to downsize, not depend on all the frivolity that most have (or think they need to have), and are determined to see it through. It's hard to change our 'attitude' towards certain things, but usually those attitudes are what cause us trouble to begin with. Take care...enjoy life... That's what matters!

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!!

26ºF was today's low; 30ºF now; and I do not think that it will get much warmer as this cold air mass moves in. Clear and sunny today, 1" - 3" of snow anticipated tomorrow evening into Monday, and a possible mixed precipitation event mid/late week here as a decent weather systems tacks across the southern/central CONUS; a similar pattern as the last weather event:(.

Yesterday ortho-people were pretty impressed with my knee's mending (considering diabetes) and I am on a T-ROM knee brace as someone else here posted about previously. Full weight bearing with the brace locked 10コ at rest for the next 4 weeks. No steps yet.

Randy your announcement made my day. This was meant to be. I wish you and Ellen many, many healthy and happy years together.:D

Bruce- I am a big fan of Dilbert. I have not seen the video, but I will before my next post. Awesome video. I almost lost bladder control laughing. Thanks

Eric- Thanks for the laugh. I do not think there are many ypical individuals here.. Idiosyncratic seems a decent descriptor. ;)

Mike- I hope that your horse recovers soon.

"... Do you ever feel like doom and gloom weather is always one week away. Weather forecasting right now is execeptually bad and has been all winter. Severe cold mammoth snows for east coast blah blah blah. I think I'll just take it as it comes."- Buppies. I agree. The newly upgraded GFS weather model in all its versions plainly sucks. I now promise to stop complaining about this ongoing global weather pattern here.

RNG- I am happy to read that the meeting of the minds went so well.

Claye- Thanks for the pictures . Nice snow management equipment.

Ted- I am happy to read that you and wifey worked through the hoarded paperwork. I am a bad hoarder of paper. I should carry a purse or better a shopping bag rather than stuff my poor wallet with sales receipts?. No money in that wallet; just receipts.

"... his death serving as yet another reminder that our time on this Earth is finite, and if there's things you want to do, you better get after them before it's too late.?"- RNG. I am sorry to read about your friend. His life energy once created and ever-radiating, will continue on through time and the cosmos. He'll live on in the memories that he created.

I hope that everyone has a decent weekend.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

63°F and 1.87 inches rain.
Yesterday got off to a slow start with rain most of the morning but my tractorshed paint area worked out great. 4 sawhorses loaded to the max with 4x6s, 4x4s, and 2x6s all painted and drying.

Not scenic, but white.

Hoping for nicer, outside weather today.
Congrats on your presentation Drew. I suspect it was both educational and entertaining.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

JB, I doubt many on here are "typical" engineers. Many like me must have malfunctioning left sides that let us freely say "Good Morning" in response to others without analysing today's data, then giving the right side of the brain, on the balance of probablity, permisssion to agree.

Less than 8% chance of rain for us. Good Morning.

Some of the engineers I work with, I consider are "binary". Not much grey/gray area.

RNG, not all of the water softener products are created equal. Some are made to a bit higher standard. Sorry about your riding buddies having their last rides. Hope you get the van sorted out.

rip, I hope the best for the horse. I'm tired of wet/mucky weather too, like Bupps.

CWB, that first photo shows some beautiful scenery. The next 2 show the reality of life up there. I'm sure things can get serious if you get stuck in that and are not properly prepared for getting unstuck or help. PS, you could have come over and had hamburgers last night with us. :)

LS, my cousin died and was brought back. Has a tremendous testimony about it. It sure will put things in perspective.

Perspective is an often under rated or under utilized term. There are so many forms of it. Eye level, below/underneath, 10' over a situation, 10,000' over it, all the way to global perspective. Figuring which perspective to apply is half the problem. Keeping things in perspective can help one's daily life style.

Thinking about inviting a bee keeper to maybe come put some hives on a part of our property that is kind of in a corner niche with a lot of trees. Any words to the wise???

Like The Don said, the weather is much cooler, clammy, and a bit windy. Have some indoor chores to do. Might work on the old guitar. It is a 1984 Takemine which has split bridge saddles that need replacing. I just rec'd some bone replacements, but they both need sanding down to fit in the slot, and then sanded down to get the height right.

Might clean the aquarium a bit. Taking the family to the library and a Wally world trip. I need a new blood pressure testing device. My old Omron sat on the shelf too long and doesn't want to kick on. I think the motor pump is out....

Chicken count still at 2, and both are still laying eggs.

44 with rain and sleet, we took Gracie for a long walk down by the creek where my topsoil pit is. I found pottery shards and a stone multi tool buried about three feet down. Every way you turn the tool, it fits your hand and has points and very sharp edges for skinning, cutting and scraping. I致e found a lot of bones, some burned in that same area. I also found a large stone there, none of the stone is native to this area. Edit: I didn’t find this stuff today.

water did not miss me for sure, I got wet feet going to the garden shed and once again the greenhouse flooded.
Doesn't hurt anything and drains in a day or two. Nothing like a little extra humidity in a greenhouse...
spent several hours repotting carnations and snapdragons, plus replanted some Scotch Kale that I had fried when the greenhouse
hit 116. Now I am much more careful to open the door and roof vent.

Also cut up this tray of assorted left over potatoes. The ones that did not rot made nice sprouts, some of them
quite complex. Going to offer some to my neighbor so he and his little boy can plant them and dig them up.
4 different kinds of potatoes all mixed together.

Still no word on my big order of potatoes. Starting to make me nervous, they were in the ground this date last year.
Too wet now anyway, no planting window.

looking forward to a quiet afternoon.
