Back when fuel was over $4/gallon out here, I regularly saw $100 fillups. I think I got to $175 once. The thing has the big 38 gallon tank in it, and anything over $99.99 meant making two transactions. The good news is it'll go almost 650 miles on a tank if I keep my foot out of it.

Yep. I recall having to go into the station and having the attendant reset the pumps, too often.

I'd be lucky if i got 10mpg with a tail wind. But it was a sweet ride.

Good morning! 32 ˚F with a mixture of rain and sleet. Whippers class is later this morning I think I hear her saying she wants to play hooky today.
Turbo Tax would not work on my computer until I updated but on the "late 2008" mac apple does not offer new updates so I had to use my wife's laptop.

headed out to local greasy spoon two minutes away for a vegan breakfast burrito.

Drew, Ah, a nice hot bean, potato, and onion burrito with hot sauce sounds good this morning but that would require cooking early, I'll just put some cinnamon in my oatmeal.
Do you really think 50% of the people would know vegan food? I would think maybe 5% here would get it right. Cheese and chicken broth would be the test. Then tell people to cook without oil is like . . . too strange too comprehend.

Rick release the recipe I can modify it but need to know what spices you use.

Eric, you remembered about the request for the floorpans. As a comparison a 2 bedroom home here in Elderland is up to 2600 sq feet. I also noticed the master bath and closets there are smaller. Some of our house are smaller for those who really want to down size. The least expensive house here is $199,000, and some older very large custom homes are up to $999,000. They figure the average house here sells for $300,000. In the 4000 acres there are 8000 homes and there will be 13000 at the end of construction, The first house in the neighborhood was built 20 years ago The last one should be finished in 2026-2028, and at any one time there are 10 houses under construction. We got a influx of people from the coast and Houston area that got tired of being flooded. Elderland still has the flavor of a friendly small resort town atmosphere were people are very friendly and active. For some government reason all residents had to confirm this week that at least one person in the household was 55 or older and that in the neighborhood at least 80% of the homes met this 55 age requirement. If you are over 55 and your bride is young and then you die your young widow does not have to move, she would be one of the 20% households.

Good Morning!!!! 40F @ 4:45AM. Cloudy with periods of rain. Becoming windy for the afternoon. High 42F. Winds S at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a half an inch.

Might get a skiff of snow overnight tonight, with chances for more going into next week. Just a heads up for those to the east of here...

Made elevation measurements for another 30' swath yesterday, and it'll be a good inside job to crank the numbers into the spreadsheet and see if that piece of ground is any flatter than what's uphill from it.

I should try to figure out what's wrong with the GPS unit as well; I know part of the problem is the buttons on the front leak and it got wet inside over the Christmas ride, but the XM receiver isn't working either, and that might just be software. Looked into buying a replacement, but I can't seem to find one with satellite radio capability, and there are LOTS of complaints about the newer Garmin units. Considering the time and money invested in cables and chargers for the one I've already got, it probably makes more sense to send it off to a repair shop and just have it reconditioned.

I should also take a swipe at taxes, too, at least start gathering up the paperwork and cost basis info. Sometimes that stuff takes a while for the various sources to pull together; sometimes it's a surprise it's even needed at all. I'll be very interested to see if the new tax laws save me any money. One of my friends with a big mortgage and lots of deductions sez it cost him more this year because of the new $12K standard deduction and the elimination of state sales tax and mortgage deductions...

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, and keeps the home fires burnin'.

what was the horsepower and torque of those old 7.3's?
I'm guessing half of what a modern diesel truck puts out.
But they didn't break...

Horsepower: 275 hp @ 2800 RPM
Torque: 525 lb-ft @ 1600 RPM

Here's a pretty good reference.

Lots of ways to make more power, but then the transmissions get unhappy, and that dominos down the drive line. Old guys like me just wanna get there without any drama, so I just leave things alone and keep the oil and filters fresh. 183K miles so far and seems to be going strong (fingers crossed I didn't just jinx myself).

Oh I forgot to mention. Our Organic gardens is having a clean-up day in a few weeks. They are very strict about chemicals and you must sign a contract with them that you use all organic materials in your garden. So, they are providing a lunch at the work day and guess what the food will be. HOT DOGS.
I'm thinking of making a batch of carrot hot dogs - marinated with mace spice they have the color, texture, shape and flavor of processed meats.

a nice hot bean, potato, and onion burrito with hot sauce

skip the hot sauce but if they offered that, I'd buy it.
I'd want my onions caramelized though, not raw.

Don't you get tired of all the beans? Guess that's why spices and flavorings so important.
If you are a good cook you can make anything taste good.

I've ordered redi made bean burritos at the supermarket, but don't eat them often because of too much
salt in them. You look at it says 430mg, well, that's ok for a serving, but then they say this standard single serving
is supposed to feed three, which it won't, and now we're talking 1300mg of salt. That's half a teaspoon of salt.
I wonder how many folks have died from diabetes eating organic sugar. But the sugar is organic, it can't be bad for us!
Wrong.

Another insidious ingredient is MSG.
Really think in a few decades they will come back and say half this stuff causes cancer.

Drew, tired of beans? There are so many more kinds of beans and flavors than there are meats. And then there are some grains that have the same rich proteins.
Oh I forgot the onion and the green and red bell peppers must be caramelized together for a really great breakfast burrito - without oil of course. Does anyone else caramelize without oil or is that only my secret flavoring technique without adding fat calories?

Our property is half way between Stone Creek and Baltic.
Pretty area up there. When my parents were in good health, they went to walnut creek, berlin almost once a week. I took my dad to Der Dutchman last year on his 94th birthday, he hadn't been there in years. All my siblings, 3 brothers and 2 remaining sisters are in OH. My oldest sister passed away a few yrs ago, lived in Parma. She also had lived in Houston Tx and Honolulu prior.
