The thing with the bolt bins is that the employees are not supposed to do anything with them. There is supposed to be stocked and rearranged by their Hillman dealer. From what I was told, if they do much of anything with them they can get in trouble.

I cannot really speak to Policy of TSC with Hillman. But.....We had a hardware store for 30 years. Our fastener supplier for the last 15 years was Hillman. The Hillman reps are humanoids - vary greatly in their talents and motivations. We never allowed them to do our ordering or organization. That was my wife’s domain, and she did a great job. And the Hillman reps loved it because they did nothing. My wife would fax in the order, and wait for the UPS truck. Most hardware stores (and big box stores-which I include TSC) just take what the rep orders (probably within corporate financial constraints).

Now that I am retired, and have to shop in other hardware stores and big box stores, it is aggravating to experience the lack of inventory control at most stores. For me, TSC is the worst “empty peg” retailer I have ever shopped in. Personally, I don’t need the service - but I do need the product! Don’t use the TSC in my town much.

We have an Orschelns here that opened about 6 months ago. Anyone ever deal with them? Feed is in 40lb bags, so it pays to do some math.....

Our TSC is great. Unless the web site says there are only 1 or 2 of an item in stock it is there. Also rarely an empty bin.

Early on when we finally go our own place and brought the horses home, the other major Purina dealer in town closed. So finding feed was hit or miss. Told the manager what was going on. He has managed to keep the feed stocked properly now.

Also note they price match. They are 10 min from my house. RK and others are 40 min. So I get a lot of price matching done. Pays to shop.

We have an Orscheln's and a TSC each in two different towns, each about a half hour away. Orscheln's tends to be better on products in stock, and comparable or better on prices.

long story short version. unfortunately i had my car totaled a few weeks ago from some idiot on a cell phone running down an exit off ramp and rear-ended my car while i was at the light at 40 mph. so - without a car. i needed a pair of welding gloves and found 3 pairs online at tsc. did not want to orer stuff without seeing if they would do what i want - called tsc and got a girl - first better pair - can only get online and not in store. the cheaper pair and a better pair by hobart she said they had them both but only 2 pr left. i asked her to hold the better pair for a few days or sat AM at latest - she said no can do. changed store policy - hold till end of day. in the past the few times i was forced to ask them they did without an issue. i never did not honor my hold. so now - what a joke. 10 miles away and i am going to walk through weird highways etc all crippled to get the pair. what a joke.

real sorry you went through this. Anyone who runs into the rear of you has to pay for your rental car.

their ins covered a rental for 3 days only. that was it - fedexed paperwork within 3 hrs and then sent tiny ****** check that can't buy a snickers bar within 10 days after. car was in mint condition and don;t get me to go there. everyone said ****.....

When I bought my trailer I had to go through four of them to find one that wasn't broken or missing something. The sales guy seemed to take it all in stride -- he didn't seem to care about anything.

When I started looking at harrows I found the reviews on the TSC site downright shocking. Lots people complained about things breaking off or welds not holding and usually after a very short period [like days].Kind of turned me off to going there but there are not a lot of choices around here.

I have had zero problems w my tsc tiller and bush hog. But I am a light user and I know they would not hold up to daily use.

We have a TSC, about 4 years old maybe. Been to a couple others maybe 30 miles away at times. Other than absolute minimalist exterior lighting I have no issues with any of them.

ORdered boots online friday, came in today (monday). They matched a price at RK PLUS 5% more off. No issues finding help at all - 5pm on a monday evening and there were 4 employees that I saw.

RK ... can't order online (what I want..yet it's listed for sale...when it says it's in store I can't order it for pickup...), other than cashiers I don't see anyone in the store. Hardware section? Not really. The big heavy stuff is way in the back...so you gotta load and haul it yourself thru the whole store..sucks.

We have an Agway nearby as well, 40 some years I think. They'll load it for ya! Mostly ag stuff - pet/livestock feed, seeds, gardening tools, at the local one. the other one i dealt with had more horse/cattle stuff in it - so prolly depends where it's located.

I got a post hole auger from them - no issues. My other implements I've found used for 1/2 to 1/3 the price of something new... No idea how they make em today vs back then.
My bush hog came with the original receipt- 1988! $1800 THEN...I paid 550 (6' model). 30 years old and still works fine...will today's implements do that? I've no idea.

I don't know how that works - BUT - I worked at kmart decades ago and knwo folks at walmart...MANY of the departments in a store are outsourced...almost like a mall.
What walmart has done is go one further - all their hershey products are on consignment - in other words, walmart doesn't pay for the inventory until it's sold!

Over christmas I had non-walmart employees waiting on me..they were there to inventory adn stock their electronics...

So the hillman bolts may very well belong to hillman...not TSC.

I know it's common for companies to pay for shelf space - well, premium space, the right height, etc. For years certain cerials at walmart were on the oopposite side of the majority of cereals. Walmart brand chips are usually on the very bottom shelf with frito lay front and center, etc.

If you have the time ....I am retired.
Don't cash the check, and file a claim for damages in small claims court.
If the Insurance company does not send a representative to dispute your claim, you will win!

Well, you may very well get a default judgement. To collect you have to file an abstract of judgement but by that time the insurance company will file to set aside your default and you will be back in court. Even if you get your judgement perfected the insurance company may deny coverage to their insured if he didn’t properly notify them of the lawsuit.

Defaults are worth having but a “Win!” is not always as easy as that.

I’m sorry for your misfortune. The thing is the insurance company very likely underpaid you as much out of ignorance and ineptitude as from malice and greed. They do things for their own convenience and expediency with no thought to how it really impacts the damaged or injured party or if it is accurate or not.

Insurance companies pay Blue Book (or similar). They don't consider condition or maintenance records. I dropped collision on both of my cars years ago because neither is worth what the additional premiums were costing me.

But I'm not sure what this has to do with TS stores or the article.
