I think SiriusXM and all its subordinate features( SiriusXM - radio, sports, travel, Guardian, etc ) will be around $147/year in my case. Apple Play is another $100 per year. Things would really have to change for me to extend beyond either of the free trial periods. Too many years doing it the old way. I have only VERY RARELY ever taken my cell phone outside the house. I've become fairly capable of finding my way without following my cell phone down the street. Again, old times - old ways.

I am required to leap into the 21st century with my new Apple iPhone. It has to match the new technology on the PW. However, it doesn't mean I will be changing the old ways of doing things. H*ll - for a moment there, I thought the ear buds that came with the new cell phone were some new type of suppository. It would have been fitting.

Audio-wise there are just too many other good options to pay that much for music or content. Between Pandora, Amazon Prime Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio, etc. you can have a ton of stuff available for basically free (or whatever you already are paying for Amazon Prime). Besides, in my opinion Sirius isn't very good and not that easy to find what you want.

I use Pandora in the house and in my shop if I put the phone in the right place, cell service drops in and out frequently around here.
About a quarter of the time when I'm out in the fields at my brothers and around the barns there is no cell service for Pandora or Prime music.
Sirius only drops out in a few places while running around locally the phone numerous places.
I have about 6 or 7 stations saved for Sirius radio (country) and I listen to 2 or 3 most of the time.
I have dropped it a few times and streamed thru my phone, then they will come back with a "super special" price for awhile.

I use a pair of Bluetooth Bone Conductor headphones and listen to tunes from iPhone, mp3, tablets, etc. These don't make my ears hurt and I can still hear normally.

That's my method 90% of time. In a few months I'll get settled into one location and go back to using computer.

This will try your patience worse than waiting on that truck

ovrszd - bk on computer. The cell phone would be akin to shutting me down. Old, cold, stiff fingers just don't cut it. Had to ensure I had internet set up ok. New appreciation for those who post with cell phones.

I don't care for the phone or app as much as my computer. You can't see which forum you're in when using the phone, or reply to a post individually. But the phones are nice when integrated to your truck for, you know, actual phone calls. ;)

I spend about as much time backing up to fix errors as I do going forward. :)

Of course, I forgot to turn the phone into the horizontal position for the keyboard. Like pecking on a playing card. I had no problems with the phone. The overall operation of the phone and its programs are the same as I have here on my Apple computer. Apple phone - Apple computer.

Backing up/making corrections - - HEY, I resemble that remark.

Too true, especially if you have fat figner syndrome like me. It doesn't matter what button I push, about every third time it's the wrong one.
It's especially painful when typing a password, and the letters disappear.

I watch my grandkids in amazement. They use both thumbs. They can click at typing speed.

Same here. My grandkids are lightning fast on their cell phone keyboards. But, I guess, if you had your face in your cell phone and were typing almost 24/7 you would improve also. Gotta be good at something.

Jstpssng - my new cell phone has a very neat feature. When you tab to password - you can click on the word - "show". It will show what you're typing. When finished - click show again. You are on your way.

Ummm, no. You don't HAVE to anything with your new PW but press the button and thrash it.

OTOH if you wan to "take advantage" of all it has to offer, then yes, you will have to have a modern smart phone.

Just be glad you didn't get the optional Airpods, you would have been even more likely to use them that way... :D

I agree with you on Sirius. Lots of channels but not a lot of good music. It's not like I have narrow tastes in music either. Sirus drops out when driving in canyons or forest (lots of those where I live). Most of the services like Pandora depend on cell service. Where there's no cell service they don't work, though with some you can download music to the phone to play back later.

The bed step is very nice, I have one on the Tundra. It bolted right on to the factory bumper mounts.

One of the nice things about modern car "infotainment" is integration with your phone, specically being able to answer the phone hands free in the car. I don't like talking on the phone but sometimes it has to happen and that makes it easier and less unsafe.

My kids grew up in the bleeding edge of cell phone communication - the early-mid 2000s. Back then there were no "smartphones" (although Blackberry came onto the forefront around that time, but they were very expensive), you used a flip-phone to text; yes, you had to press the "9" key four times to get an "x"...

I remember we spent 2 weeks in Alaska when my son was 17. He sent over 4000 texts during that month on his Motorola Razr. Many of which he did without even looking at the phone (remember, this is when phones had physical buttons, so you could "touch type").

That same son now has the latest iPhone while I am still 2+ generations behind (for the first time - I have always been ahead of him in the past. I had a "crackberry" that time we were in AK).

oosik, my Dad and his wife got smart phones last year. He really enjoys being able to talk into his phone for texting. he seldom types, rather uses the Android voice stuff.. I'm sure Apple has their version.. no need to type, just say it, check that it transcribed correctly and off you go..

From Power steps, to bedsteps and bed extenders.. can't go wrong with AMP research.. AMP Research | Official home of POWERSTEP | BEDSTEP(R) | BEDSTEP2 | BEDXTENDER僣D

I've got the PowerSteps on my pickup and my wife's Tahoe.. very nice. Should be plug and play (connects to OBDII port on newer rigs). I have the Bedstep on my truck and wouldn't be without it.

If you speak clearly and distinctly at a normal speaking pace you can dictate into SMS and emails, and I suppose it would work pretty good here too, though I have never tried it, as I type pretty well. You might give it a try... There are usually some mistakes, which you can edit fairly quickly.

I also use it frequently for typing into the TBN app on my phone, works pretty well. This post is an example of one that was typed with the speech to text feature on my phone.
