Who is working Christmas Day?

apart FROM ME.....
Wife is working, Daughter is a nurse and rostered on, other Daughter final year med school and will be in a hospital somewhere, I shall have to console myself with the fact that I get paid 2.5 times the normal rate which ultimately means the Government will reap the reward.
We are all off on the 26th and will have our day then.
Will have TBN on at work as I don't plan on working too hard.

I am fortunate that I have never had to do that. Furthermore, because I believe there should be days which people should be free to spend with their families I always have planned not to need anything from places which do remain open... That includes those of you in essential services; hospitals, emergency services, LEOs... I don't even speed on Christmas Day.

I do appreciate the efforts of the folk who do work that day,, though.

Yep I’ll be on Christmas Eve and Day....no extra pay. I’m happy to do it.

Family did Christmas Eve and Day Thursday and Friday. So we are done

Not me! I've been on zero overtime for years. Engineering department budget won't allow it.

Don't remember ever having to work Christmas Day! Blessed that way job wise as the 24th Eve is our formal family dinner and gift gifting, and then we all enjoy a good Norwegian breakfast in the morning and then play with our toys on a sleepy afternoon!

I am retired so no longer work for someone else (just for myself now). But, for 38 years I worked in a Hospital and worked many Holidays including Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, 4th of July and others. It's kinda expected in a businesses that operate 24/7 365 days a year.

To the many people in various fields of employ that do have to work on Holidays including all of our Military Service members I also say thank you for your service and wish all a very Merry Christmas and happy holiday season.

Im lucky enough to be scheduled so that when I left work Thursday evening, I don't have to go back til next Friday morning. And Christmas eve and day are paid holidays.

I hear that! Grandpas are good at that! Now I just need some boys... although my granddaughters are not shy about getting dirty, or fishing, or shrimping! So if grandsons don't come, I will be alright. :drink:

I worked numerous Christmas days before I retired - usually overseas, but several times right here in the states, depended on my duty assignment at the time. My wife has worked Christmas nights since she became a supervisor so that some of her people can have the night off. I have to admit that I'm probably the reason for that since I did the same for my guys while I was in the service.
We'll do Christmas Eve with the kids and grandchildren, then sleep late on Christmas day.

Guess I'll just put a rear end in a recliner the rest of the day.

Before I moved to NC, worked EVERY Christmas day under the sun on December 25th, and generally could make it work to my advantage per taking off down the road going into next year.

I have worked more Christmas days in my adult life than I have been off. However, I now have some seniority so I am off this year.

I'll never forget the FIRST time I was scheduled to be off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I was a sergeant in a burglary and theft unit and Christmas Eve morning, about 8 a.m., my lieutenant called to tell me that one of my detectives needed my help. A young man (AWOL from the army) had been arrested in a stolen car the night before. His aunt, a well known Dallas attorney, had been called, and I later learned that she went to visit him, told him she loved him, and that she'd try to get him off as lightly as possible and back in the army, but "first you're going to clear up all your business and tell the officers EVERYTHING or I'm going to bounce your head off the walls." Now this was an old gal who looked like she could go bear huntin' with a switch, and the boy knew she meant it.:laughing: So we drove around with him pointing out the homes he and his friends had burglarized, the homes where we'd find the stolen property, etc. So of course I had to get some search warrants. I got a city pickup truck, got a couple of trustees out of the jail to help, loaded up the stolen property we recovered, etc. (two or three truck loads) Needless to say, it was after midnight and more than 12 hours before I was able to go home just before the kids got up Christmas morning. And that was the last Christmas that I worked.:laughing:

I'm working, and do every other year of each major holiday. Just how it works out working a 28 day on 28 day off overseas rotation. I will be home for New Years and still off when everyone else is back on the grind. Could not imagine working a 5 and 2 job.
