I look at the threads and click on one I want to read, and most times it takes me to page 2, or page 4, or ,,,,

What do I need to do to get it to take me to very first post, on page 1 ??????

Thanks

I always click on the thread title, not the envelope icon and it always takes me to the first post that I haven't read.

Clicking on the numbered squares will take you to the top of that page of posts.

hmmmm....
I always click on the thread title.
Example >> I just clicked on a thread title that has 71 pages.
It took me to page 67. ??????

Clicking on the "box" with #1 works, but in every other forum I'm active in, clicking on the thread title always takes me to the first post of the first page.
I figured that on TBN I may need to change a setting or something, don't know. ?

Hmmm... Perhaps it's the TBN display version you're using. There are two different ones. I think that it can be changed in your profile, but don't quote me.

Also, at the top of the page, there's a "View First Unread" thingy... maybe that'll fix it for you?

To the right of the thread title, it shows the number of pages in the thread. Click on the first page.

What device, phone or computer?

Where are you looking, Today's Posts, New Posts or individual forums?

On my computer, clicking the title takes me to the first unread post no matter how many pages in the thread.

If in the list of threads, you click the #1 box, it will go to the first page:

I’m using a Dell laptop and an iPad.
Same results with both.
Don’t matter where the thread originates, each category, new posts, todays posts, whatever..

As I said, clicking on a thread title should take you to the first post on the first page, at least that how it works with every other forum I frequent.

Got to be something in my settings or profile that’s jacked up, I don’t know.
It ain’t life or death by no means, but I’d sure like to make it work “right”

When you say the first unread post, what does that mean? The first unread post for you in that thread or the first unread post for the rest of the world in that thread?

That still makes no sense to me, either way.
I know I’m clicking on threads I’ve not looked at, so what sense does it make to take me to the first “unread post”. LOL

Click on "My Home" then "General Settings" (or click on this link: https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions ) then scroll down to "Miscellaneous Settings" change the setting from "Tractor" to "TractorByte2015"
The current skin is set to take you to the first unread post, as I understand it, it is a holdover from the original forum software.

Example

Go to forum Parts/Repairs and click on Blown up Kubota motor.
It has 37 pages.
When I clicked on it for the first time it took me to page 34. WTF? LOL
That ain’t gonna be the first unread post for me or anybody else.

Glad to help. As I recall, there are couple sub forums where that skin does not work correctly, but it should work for most of them.

If you think about it, you joined on November 14th, 2018.

Any thread you clicked on would probably take you to any posts that you haven't read since the first time you were here, not since the beginning of TBN since it was created, something like what, 18-19 years ago?

It makes perfect sense not to send new people back almost 20 years in time.

So welcome to TBN in real time.

Mine does the same, a little annoying, wen I change to tractorbyte 2015 I get an ''only secure content displayed'' warning on every post clicked. Dont know what's more annoying....... It goes to the first post though

I had my phone browser set to full site and did this "TractorByte2015" thing. It screwed up the phone view something fierce. On top of that I couldn't get back to settings on the phone to change it back. About to change my setting back to "tractor" using my PC. Guess I have learned to live with the way it works so I may as well stick with that.

I agree with the OP it isn't typical operation compared to most other forums.

I am on the "tractor" skin as well. Don't have any problems. I'm primarily on an iPad and PC. Don't use the phone for TBN.

As I understand it, there is a new forum software in the works and as such, they haven't updated the TractorByte2015 skin since they added HTTPS to this site.

I am really aggravated with myself for trying the TractorByte2015 skin on my phone. Now I can't get it back the way it was for anything. I changed my forum preference back to the tractor skin on my PC and cleared my cookies on my phone and logged back in. It allowed me to select full site but still doesn't display as it did which was virtually the same as seen on my PC before I changed it.

Yeah well, I respectfully disagree. I don’t think a thread with 40 pages about Tier IV emissions goes back 20 yrs.
when I click on it, I shouldn’t start reading page 36.

And if I open a book for the first time I don’t turn to page 199. I start at the front.

No matter, I can work around it but would like to make it right in my simple punkinhead, be it a setting or whatever.

And whatever page I致e landed on since visiting your site I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the info and members input.
Hopefully I’ll be able to contribute some in the future rather that ***** about the format. :D
