Good morning! 73˚ and staying in the 80s, another chance of rain today, Litle rains over the past week have amounted to 5". Rain every day through Sunday. Wonderful!

Yesterday was a landmark day as I finished the 5 year Century Study Century Health Study Home Page.
8 hour round trip drive to Houston's Medical center and 4 hours of test.
I was in the control group - no extra classes, education, test incentives or asked to stay on heart healthy plant based diet but did anyway. Not what they were expecting but glad to see me do it. My reward was evident buy the result of the PET scan and endurance on the treadmill. The Pet scan showed no progression of my heart disease. The disease has been stopped. My heart was all red and orange indicating good blood flow through all vessels in the heart.
They invited me to enlist in the "extended" study so I'm with them another five years.

Ed the diet works!! It is the silver bullet against heart disease.

Reminder for folks, most schools are going again after the summer break, please don't disregard the flashing lights and stop sign on the buses. For those not on Facebook, a car drives on lawn to go past car stopped when bus has stop sign out and flashing lights.

Good evening all. 70F this morning, overcast and calm wind. Intermittent drizzle again today with about .05 inch in the rain gauge, sky partially cleared late this afternoon with peaks of sunshine. Light wind day today, and a high temp of 84F. Men's meeting this morning, book discussion was on Lee Stroble's "Case for Grace". Bike ride after that, more drizzle during ride and had to slow down due to wet streets. Worked on cadence sensor, just needed a new battery, 3.3 volt battery was down to 1.5V. Stepdaughter is getting a new mattress, and her old on went to a friend, and I got to help move the mattresses this afternoon. Finished the day by hanging a new light over the dinner table. I works but have to shorten the hollow threaded rod to get the base up against the ceiling.

up in the middle of the night, mind racing, gratified this storm is heading away from me instead of over top of me, and very thankful I don't live downtown near the River. Outer bands of storm now coming into Outer Banks, winds there only up to 20mph, rain will start here late morning with increasing winds all day, through tonight, all day tomorrow and likely still raining on Saturday. Wunderground predicts about 6 inches total, they are always way low locally because they never can guess the local downpours. So basically the weather doomers say 40 inches everywhere and Good Luck.

Well, I have ten acres of beautifully mowed lawn and fields waiting to get trashed. Driving out the driveway yesterday I studied the trees in the woods near the road and saw several dead pines. I'll be seeing them soon I bet. What would really be a mess is if one of the two big pines flanking the end of my driveway blew down; their roots would completely rip up the width of the pavement. And I'm thinking about a couple of those really high really big limbs coming out of my front woods hanging over the road; if they go down road crews will handle it. Or if I can I will.
I'm ready to grapple. In air conditioning...

I hope my niece got out of Charleston. Am in daily contact with friend in Wilmington.
made some lemon balm tea, hopefully put me back to sleep.

Good morning all. Woke up to the news on our radio that the hurricane paying some of you a visit has been downgraded to cat 2. The newsreader completely failed to mention that some of Florence's loss of enthusiasm for devastation must surely be down to Drew's thorough preparations

Don, it must have been a great feeling to get a big healthy PASS on those tests. I hope you apologised to the doctors for screwing up the control group results by massively changing diet and refusing to die prematurely Did they reveal the percentage of people who are still alive to take the tests 5 years on ?

Good morning all, 68 going to 79 with am fog and 40% chance of showers. Still need to lower the pool water whether we get much rain or not and still need to fix the fence panel. Been putting off the fence panel for about a month, tome to get it done. Watched a great movie with my wife yesterday. I Can Only Imagine, the story of Bart Millard, and the band Mercy Me. Want to watch it again soon.

72 going to 82. It's been mostly cloudy and damp this week, fog in the morning and then a peek of sunshine by sunset.

Don, great news about your tests and continued involvement. You have done a lot to help us health-wise.

Ed, sounds like a great movie.

Larro, glad to see you return and hope to hear more from you.

David, beautiful rainbow. Glad the hurricane didn't damage your place. It is fun seeing the pic of Kekoa (sp?) every morning.

The rain stayed away again yesterday, so 9 more hours "in the hole" doing French drain work. Picked up another 2160 lbs of 57s gravel. Got all pipe and gravel in and overlapped the landscape cloth on top...so it is functioning. I moved all the gravel with a shovel and wheelbarrow, because the ground is so soft from rain that I decided not to drive the tractor over it. Need to go pick up one more ton to top dress one section and then top dress another section with dirt and sod I saved.

Then if the grass dries out, need to mow before the rains get here.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 58° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 78° with partly cloudy skies. Good visit with doctor yesterday. Cleared for surgery next month. Got a few things done outside yesterday. Plan to do same thing today along with washing house windows.

Great news on your test results Don!

74° here and forecast for 83° for our high today with 80% chance of rain.

Leaving about 7 a.m. to drive to up to San Angelo for a funeral this afternoon. 5 hour drive each way. This will be a long day.

Looks like Florence has weakened a bit but, hope those in her path don’t let your guard down. A Cat 2 storm is still very serious.

Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, as a Cat 2, ten years ago today and was a very severe storm.

There is a hint of good news on the hurricane, but too early to tell if it holds up.

And apparently what I saw was correct, down to 110 mph this morning, not a cake walk but better than 150 they were predicting.

Drew, prayers that it leaves our favorite Quaker in tact.
Everyone in the path of the flooding, prayers for you, and I honestly think it’s going to be a lot less catastrophic than predicted.

Going to see mom today for the first time in two weeks, still have some scabbing but I think I’m safe.

Starting to get the outer bands of Florence this morning but I feel a lot better about it today. Prayers guys, it’s not in our hands.
